ok so about 5 years ago i cut my dreads. I saved them ( i know weird ) and id like to grow a new set of dreads. I've heard it can be dont but havent been able t find any information on it. How long should my current dreads be when i attach the old ones? How do i attach them? Will they look funny?
Look on youtube for yarn extensions or yarn dreads. I saw a couple different videos on there that would probably show you what to do.
i would say you can try to attach them whenever you have dreads again. try using like hemp string and wrap them together, then possibly put a bead over where they connect. that way it should look toooo too funny haha, but you never know unless you try it. if all fails then you just wont be able to connect them
yeah i saw that but i wasnt sure that it would work. yarn is a little diffrent then hair. I guess it might work though. I was hoping some one had some experince with attaching dreads to dreads
their is a chick on fb that dose human hair extensions called lunar dreadlocks she is on here as well her name is sam but don't know her nickname she is from london ontario she might be able to help you
To attached old dreads to new dreads you're going to need matching thread and a crochet hook. You may have to cut a bit off your old dreads where you will be overlapping with the new ones so that you don't end up with a bulge where they are over lapped. The more you overlap, the better they will stay in. Crochet the two together as best you can, (though if you can have someone else do this, it will be MUCH easier), then with a needle and thread sew inside the two dreads to strengthen the bond. You'll notice a huge difference after the sewing. Try to keep it from showing on the outside as much as possible and tie it off once you feel it's tight enough. I usually crochet the bonded area one last time to pull in any thread that may be showing and to make the attached area flush. Depending on how old your dreads were when you cut them, will be dependant on when they should be installed. The more mature they were, the longer you should wait.
Perfect!!! thanks a bunch this was the answer i was looking for. sounds like you have done this before and are quite knowledgeable. Did yours stay in after? do you have to worry about them falling out? Is there anything i should do before attaching them?
I love the idea of reattaching your dreadlocks. Our hair is living, spiritual art. I have some of my daughter's hair locked into my dreads; I feel it is so special.
I know someone who has done this, he let people cut his hair off when he was blackout drunk and then reattached them later lol. I also extended my hair at one point with human hair extensions that I made myself. This girl's way of doing it worked best for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBtDasQszoY"]How to put in Dreadlock Extensions - YouTube All the other ppl on youtube will tell you to jam the ends together and just crochet the fuck out of them until they stick together, but I found that that doesn't work & they will just fall out after you wash them next. All this being said, extending dreadlocks is a pain. I let most of my extensions fall out & have no intention of reattaching, EVER. If you feel that you must do it, you need to make a new set of dreads, let them mature for like a YEAR, and then you can try to extend. Otherwise you will have breakage.
