So I am letting my hair dread itself. Today is day 5 of not combing. I can see where some hair is starting to pull towards other, and where some is starting to twice around each other. Here are some images of the process so far. I am really excited about this! I also want to thank everyone that gave me advice since I first came to this forum over a month ago!

this is the best one so far (or at least of what i can see of them all)

hahaha to the guy claimimng have a niice 2 years.. odviosly trying to scare ya into taking a faster route when u show significanyt progresss in only 5 days
its not dreads yet (but is backcombed sideshow bonb hair dreads?) but its sure showuing fast progress

its hard to guess at how fast, but, im thinking 3 weeks to a month ya should have dread babbies forming and be looking nice and matutre roght about when any backcombed dreads would
    ow reasonable changes
maybe aftyer they begin to dread u can updaye monthlyinstead

for 5 days theyre doin great

    thanks everyone!

SE: the comment about 1-2 years didnt bother me none, lol, i found plenty videos and images online of people that had a good amount of noticeable dreads as soon as four months of neglect. Hell, i can even see where the hair is starting to section in mine after five days so whatever. if it did take 2 years, who cares. as long as they grow and i have a great time getting there!

i am really hoping that the one if the front will be the first one to actually dread up. i will post more pics as my hair sections itself more, as soon as you can see a dread forming, then after that either bi-weekly or monthly.

and thanks to everyone for the support!
(maybe you cant tell, but yeah, i am really excited about this) wish i started this last month instead of trying the backcoming first

Not every negative comment it to try to get someone to do something another way. Maybe he just doesn't like dreads. Maybe his took 1-2 years to form and is wishing him luck but it didn't come across that way. Either way, does it matter?

If that is day 5, you are going to have some sweet dreads showing by 4 months for sure! Good luck with the journey! Also, do you dye your hair? It looks like you do in the first pic, but in the rest it looks like you don't.

bolderthing: in those pics my hair is dyed. last month i bleached my hair b4 i tried the backcombing method. that way after a long while just the tips would of been white. well, after awhile i just didnt like it so i dyed my hair as close to my natural color as i could find. the problem with that tho is that my birthmark is a patch of white hair in the center of my head.(when my hair is really really short it looks like a bold spot) so once my hair starts growing out that spot will be white but i think it will look great if it dreads itself into some dreads with the brown hairs

you can see the white backcombed ones here

the backcombed dreads reminded me of the old punk rock days back in the 80's
well at least the 1 pic
they say the neglect method looks crazy awhile but personaly i think the early weeks of messyness look better then that crazy harsh liberty spike look..its more organicto see hair just doin its thiong slowly

how long did the backcombed ones last

it was no worst than not getting my hair trimmed every few months and after i washed and conditioned it a few times it was pretty much ok. it was mostly frizzy fora day or two, but then again i have bleached it and dyed it 13 times in one week before

so yesterday was one week for me with no combing. it seemed that after i washed my hair the other night, a lot of the tangles and knots came out. is there a better shampoo out there than the one from DHHQ? well here is how it looks now
