Rap is Crap

I realize I'm going to get a lot of shit on what I'm about to say. I try to listen to rap music, but I just can't. Rap is all about the same thing, drugs, rape, robbing, sex. I can't find any artistic value in it. It sucks. How can anyone listen to it? If you like it, explain.

I so agree with you! I can't stand rap. How can anybody listen to it? I try to be as open-minded as possible ( that's my motto even ), but I can't understand what's so good about it. No artistic value what so ever, the people that 'sing' it

usually are jerks (like eminem), the lyrics sound like crap with all the drugs, rape,
violence,etc....not to mention all those "uh" and "uh-huh" and "yeah" in it. I believe humanity would get along better without it. This is just my oppinion though.

 

the only modern rapper i like is kanye west. other than him, everything else is shit. i mean absolute shit. how do people like 'lil john make millions by screaming "yeah!" "what!?" and "crunk!" over and over and over again? seriously! there is no singing involved at all. any idiot can be the next big rapper! and this fat joe guy, why the **ck is he popular!? he's a fat white guy who says the n word over and over again and got millions out of it. why!? these children of today are being told what to like by mtv and whatever they play, the children think is cool. because mtv says its cool. wtf is this about? i never even watched that channel until one of my friends comes over and watches it when im 17. and i have brilliant taste in music! its not hard to see whos a genius and whos a moron, whos a talent and whos a hack. but mtv owns the youth of today, and i dont think anything is gonna change that anytime soon.

well, the point of my rambling is that people need to find true music that touches something within their soul. and not something that they just mindlessly dance to

 

I rarely watch MTV...and I'm a youth, HOWEVER some of my pals just can't watch anything else but MTV!! Rap has taken over mtv, and so has hiphop! (atleast in America). Why can't they put on something what you can call music?

 

I totally agree with you. Why can't MTV play music? If people want to hear rap they should turn on BET, it has all the rap someone could need.

 

Most rap is crap...but i do like Ice cube NWA and cypress hill , plus Wu tang clan are realy good as well.

I don't care about east coast west coast rivalries , people being killed over it all is just mental.i don't care about its 'roots' ..


No artistic value...mmm i think your wrong .. the sad thing is their is a huge market for rap ...so every one thinks they are the new big thing and the market is being saturated..some singers that should have chosen another genre choose rap ... just because it sells...so i can see that the artistic merit is not apparent.


I have always liked the 'artists' i have mentioned ... because they always have some fun and are serious with out being pious.

so yes rap is crap...just IMHO a small % has redeaming qualities.

 

But i dont mind R&B, well alicia keys anyway, shes very musically talented.

Death Metal is sort of stereo typed in the same way rap is aswell in my opinion but atleast theres some sort of musical talent involved in it and its interesting to listen to. Death metal doesnt run on a continuous loop, this is also what i cant stand about Rap, Its so boring b/c it sounds the same!!!
there was a time where i was interested in Rap music but this was a time where i wasnt as wise as i am today...musically anyway lol.

In New Zealand we dont have MTV, but the music channels we do have are over loaded with rap, hiphop and r&b. they need 2 play more old school music IMO.

realy i don't mind her music...i like others like joss stone an katie melua.. its just her , i despise her as much as lauren hill.. its just the self importance and all that crap. any time her name comes up i just have to vent my irrational hatred...sorry.

 

most mainstream rap isnt that great. but this is like the anti-punk thread. you don't have enough appreciation of music in general to realize what's there and what it takes to make those songs happen. and more importantly realize the message being portrayed. even if it is just about sex and drugs, that's their form of expression and i respect it.

I'll forever be a lover of The Roots though. It's more like alternative rap, but they rap about anything, not just sex and that shit. They do it for the love of hip hop and it shows.

I have to say that i really cannot stand rap!! I have listened to various rap artists and it a) depresses me BIG TIME!! b)I think its all incredibly boring!!


For me there are 2 kinds of rap - male rap and female rap. The guy rappers simply go on about getting into gang wars,drinking and wanting sex with skinny,pretty young girls. Some people argue that rappers are simpy speaking the truth and about real life, i say that what goes on in a rappers world does not neccessarily go on in my world and is not the infinite truth!
Female rap is more R n' B and is all about ' loving' these huge gangsters who go out,get drunk and get involved in gang wars and who then come home late at night and beat the crap out of them!!!! Its an idea that i loath and deteste and it really depresses me when i listen to it all.
besides all that, most rap music sounds the same and i hate it!

The only rap and hip hop I can enjoy is, Kanye West, the Beastie Boys, and Black Eyed, other than that it's just crap.

 

im getting really into the horror core kinda thing.
just as much artistic merit as anything
aye sure theres shit but if ya dont look you wont find.
listen to all the death metal about and aye a lot of that sounds the same but if you jump around from Brutal insanity over to autopsy theres a great deal of difference. you just have to have an ear for it.
i cant stand shitty souless shit which tends to be 90 percent of mainstream but that is all people hear, eminem sucks cock no doubt about that but sycksyde are great fun.
in every style of music there is some that i like (apart from country so far )i have taken the time to look for shit i like. you simply cant prove wrong my opinion cos it is simply that, MY opinion. i like the beats i like the samples i like the amusing subject matter. i like.

(i must actually add my heart live's with gore/grind so im just fighting the principle here)
