I catch myself doing it, and will very often laugh at myself, and say "you dumb-ass!" at how easy it is to fall into stereotyping people.
I always strive to look at situations and my reactions from a third person perspective, it helps keep ya honest with yourself. ;)

The profiling of evil goes without saying.

Reminds me of a few jokes that show this very problem.

Though we used to laugh at that as kids, it shows the harrowing truth- profiling is there and it's not just in law enforcement. It's everywhere.

I'd be interested in seeing a similar video made in a black neighborhood.

I do feel slightly manipulated - given the the emphasis on certain reactions, and the lack of revealing the thoughts and motivations of some of the participants (for e.g did colour play any role in why certain members of the public took such a strong attitude to the coloured actor - we are supposed to conclude that was the motivating factor).
It did seem a conclusion was drawn prior to any of the scenarios playing out.
There also seemed slight variations in the attitude and responses of some of the actors.
But, I do realise that people do have varying degrees of prejudices in these circumstances - but not everybody shares such views.
I'm not quite sure if it has helped the debate or changed any attitudes.

The pre drawn conclusion is called an hypothesis without which its unlikely the film would have been made. Predudice is the word that should be being used here-'profiling'? Ive seen stuff like this made years ago, with very similar outcomes. I think it says that we havent progressed as far as we'd like to think we have.

Ok, In other words, they seemed to be fixing the facts around their predrawn conclusion.
The only people who mentioned race were the coloured women, and they said something like: 'young white men don't carry burglar tools.'
Which was the only indication ethnicity was part of any of the people passing by reason for not doing something or doing something.
It seemed highly unlikely another conclusion was ever going to be made.
Perhaps it was merely an illustration of more substantive studies already carried out.
Perhaps if ethnicity/gender was mentioned regarding the other actors it would seem a little more legitimate.

I agree, it would be interesting to see the reaction in an entirely different neighborhood. These videos are pretty sad, but to do a true social experiment they should have to try out the experiment in very different locations.

Some years ago I remember an experiment in which a mock criminal trial was played out by actors (both white), with only the jury members unaware. The same script was used in both trials, and the only difference was the appearance of the two actors playing the part of the defendant, one nice looking, clean cut and well dressed, the other rough looking, and poorly attired. The first trial defendant was found not guilty and the second was found guilty. Afterwards everyone was gathered together and the jurists informed that the trial was scripted, and when asked how they came to their decisions in deciding guilt or innocence, it was the appearance of the defendants that was found to be the primary decision making basis, "He looked guilty" or "He looked innocent" although the evidence presented and words spoken in both trials was identical. So in the end IS or CAN justice really be blind? Look at the news today, and how much effort is placed on the politcal leaning of persons as a means to denigrate them. It would appear that for many to assign guilt or innocence to someone convicted of a crime, but one question need be asked; Which political party do you belong to?

Not sure about racial profiling, but if I'm not speaking my hippy ,lingo, or wearing bright colors most people think I'm a racist, because I have a southern accent, and I am white. Oh also my grandfather is part native american

Its really funny because his skin is darker then mine, caramel in complexion, and when we eat out in public people always try to figure out if we are really related or not xD

I had to go to a walk in clinic today to get a Dr's note for work.
Last time I was in there I was kinda treated like dirt. I'm assuming it was the dreadlocks and tattoos.
Today I went in with a long skirt, long sleeve top and a hijab.
No attitude given to me, what so ever.

    Prejudice is weird.

Perhaps I shouldn't say most people think I am racist....Rather I should say a lot of people see a white person with a southern accent, know nothing other about him than an accent, and may assume " I bet hes a racist." I am not a fan of president obama so automatically, because i don't agree with a mans policies, people are fucked up add those three things together ( white, southern accent, doesn't like obama) and call me a racist.

I am not racist. I just don't like ignorant people of any race. This includes
Illegal immigrants from all countries, Racist nazi skinheads, people like westboro baptist church, and people who sag their pants and make a general ass of themselves while tryin to act like a god damn thug

As I said, my grandfather is brown dude, so kind of hard to be a racist at least towards non white people...cause technically my grandfather aint white XD

I was raised to judge a man not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his heart.

person:"your a racist then! the mexicans have just as much a right to come here as we do"
me:"since when are all illegal immigrants mexican...and yes they do have every right to come here...legally"
    person: "shut up you racist"
