One tek I read about extractions said that you need to soak the material in an acid for about a week then repeat 2 or 3 times. Another said to leave the material in the acid overnight, simmering on the stove, then repeat 2 times. Will it work to just simmer it overnight? Another question is how long do chems like DMT or Bufotenin last in an acidic solution?

you can skip the acid step altogether and go straight to base see erowid's dmt for the masses

    indefinitely.

DMT is stable in an acidic environment, but not in a basic one. A/B extraction is old-school... tried and true. straight base extraction is the sloppy lazy man's tek. I have a hunch the so-called "higher yields" also includes plant phospholipids, and a slew of other alkaloids. if i ever get around to doing both teks, I'll run them both through hplc (I suspect numerous peaks with the base extraction, indicating a mess)
