ok now i understand shrooms are ripe once the veil under the cap is justt about to break off.... now my question is why do people grow there shrooms so big for? (the shrooms are only sucking your nutrients dry..)( aside spore prints but then you would only need one shroom for that) so my question is should i pick my shrooms when there ripe or when there fully grown?
I've read so many topics on this. I can't find a straight answer to what is best. It seems to be a matter of opinion. I haven't seen any research.
It's true that they are at their peak potency when the veil is still somewhat attached, however, if they get bigger they don't lose any of the psilocybin/psilocin, it's simply not as concentrated due to an increased matter/mass, biggest reason people let them get bigger: more weight=more to sell, and the potency between an 1/8 of shrooms veil attached and an 1/8 fully opened and grown is pretty much going to be unnoticeable if they're good mushrooms to begin with.
ok well im growing the creepers strain which is supposed to b the best strain out right now... above average in potency ......now everything i grow will b for personal use i have no intent to sell ( im greedy) so what do you think i harvest when there ripe or let em grow till there ginormous and suck up all my nutrients? is that worth the gamble?
Just harvest as soon as the veil breaks. If you're not selling, you're just gonna have to eat more dirt-tasting mushroom matter for the same trip. Definitely let at least one open and get a spore print, though.
