I'm a fan of 70s prog (Yes, Genesis, etc) who's desperately trying to bridge over into "new prog". It's tough, because prog got jumbled up with metal back in the 90s, and I didn't like the result a whole lot (even though I'm a metal fan too... I just don't think the 2 should mix). But if you've got some good suggestions, I'm listening! I checked out the Flower Kings once, and I thought they were good, but I thought they were too much like Yes.

My friend Karin likes Symphony X a lot, all I heard of it was rather generic symphonic power metal a la Rhapsody... nothing groundbreaking.

I like heavier prog metal like Meshugga. Dream Theater is really awesome though every time I see them I feel like they are secretly a glam metal band.

We had that kind of question in the last prog-thread, that I started, too.
I will call the commitee to gather next week, then I'll be really free of stupid exams, work and other stuff, so that I can think about the definition.

    Just be patient.

Meanwhile, you can get some idea in

Actually, they arn't in my profile.:p

    Here's my blog thing:

I discovered prog in the summer of '04 through friends who introduced me to Dream Theater. I bought an MP3 player in early '05 and have now been opened up to alot of other prog such as The Flower Kings, IQ, Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree, LTE, Jorden Rudess, Marillion, Magnitude 9, Symphony X and the rest.:) I also enjoy the classics like The Pink Floyd, Rush, Yes, King Crimson and other bands. But none the less my music taste excels not just prog, I love jazz fusion, psychedelia and some world Music...:)

    Talk to me.;-)
