how old were you when you got your own place? i just turned 24 a few weeks ago and i know it's time to get up out the crib. i work a low-paying job and only make a few hundred per week, but my new year's resolution is to have my own place by the end of this year.

what things did you do to save up money to get your own place 'n stuff? did you hustle on the side? how much is rent or mortgage @ the place you are living?

i know my biggest expenses are trees and fast food, so i'ma cut down major on that shit. probably only blaze on weekends and start buying more groceries and prepare food @ the crib. i pay a few hundred a month for car insurance, only $50 for cell phone, a few hundred cause of fucked up credit cards, and i give a few hundred to moms and dad (i stay @ mom's and my dad stays 'bout 10 minutes away) to help out with bills.

i know it's gonna be harder than a bitch, but i'ma do it. there are lots of places in south florida that are under a G a month for rent, so i'ma see what it do.

I moved out with my boyfriend this past summer (June). Our rent is 575/month which included heat and hot water. Our electric bill averaged 70$ and cable/internet/phone was 120$.

A lot of the money was mine. I got a full scholarship to school but the government gives 2000$ to each student, so that money was used on furniture and stuff.

I live with my girlfriend in a shoddy little place in Chinatown. $350 a month. The apartment is a 3 bedroom but we only have one of the bedrooms (the only 1 with a full bath). There are 2 other couples that live in the apartment and share the kitchen. The other couples barely know a word of English.

    The $350 includes utilities.

The place is super rundown. I tried to get internet access there when I first moved in but had no luck. There is no cable there or phone, people use sat. dish and cell phones.

Some people have those USB wireless things for internet.

The ceiling has water damage. hehe

She has made the place pretty nice though. I built some of the IKEA furniture and we have a loveseat from IKEA, she bought a Ralph Lauren Duvet. We also just got a 52 inch LCD TV that takes a big chunk of the little room we rent.

When I use to live on my own in Austin I lived across the street (3 minute walk) from the 7-11 where I worked and had a 1 bedroom for $450 a month. I rented out the bedroom for $150 to my good friend and I lived in the living room. (my parents were still paying my car insurance at the time). I only smoked shwag when I lived on my own. I stole all my cigarettes from 7-11, and also stole some hotdogs and taquitos every once in awhile.

It was not fancy living but I did ok.

I got my own place when I was 17. I was able to afford it because I was going to school and so I took out a bunch of education loans. Now I have to work and honestly it's not that easy to get by at the moment.

    Good luck to you :)

    Can I call cars "autos"?

Wait, can I call a chair a "seat"?

    Can I call cocaine "snow"?

I am totally ignorant of the proper etiquette, sorry.

Born of an affluent middleclass african american family there were certain expectations and a level of excellence expected of each brood. throughout my childhood my parents encouraged me and my siblings to strive for independence and financial freedom with regular bulletin board material in the form of a plaque over the fireplace which read “racism est tantum an indulgeo” (racism is only an excuse) and my later favorite “honky can basium meus niger ass” (honky can kiss my black ass) from that early nurturing and encouragement to strive to be the best it was all downhill from there [IMG]

I moved into a place with 2 of my cousins when I was 22, rent was $800 but wasn't bad at all splitting 3 ways. Now I live in a 2 bedroom apt (first floor of old house). Rent is $500 including pet fee, and it's kind of rundown, but it's in a prime location, and I have my own back yard so it works out well for me and my pup.

Wright down everytime you spend any money in a month.....you will see a lot of things that you could go without and a lot of things you can find cheaper

While it was meant to be humorous, there is an air of truth which cuts to the heart of
    the african american community [IMG]

My life, and my community, is basically focused on marijuana and I've never heard anyone around here call it "trees" Sounds weird to me, but to each their own.

when i turned 18 i lived in a tent in the city for like 8 months, until it got really really cold(life-changing experience). and then i rented a room with some guy for an eighth of weed a week. he turned out to be a psycho and chopped up my bed with an axe. then i moved into a sober house for about a month and applied to college. then moved home and then into dorms.

now i live at my parents place, again. cuz its cheap and i lost my job in february.

People definitely use that term in Texas. I like the term....marijuana plants as tall as trees..I never use the term but it sounds good to me.
