It can be a suggestion of a song, movie or book, a proverb, a photo, anything! I know its a hard ask, and your suggestion might only help change the life of one person, or make tiny little improvements in the lives of others..but these are all good things.

Heres mine. It didn't necessarily change my life but it helped solidify and clarify a lot of the ideas that have been forming in my mind since high school that I found it difficult to really comprehend. It is a very accessible book and written in very simple language so its excellent for stupid people like myself. Its like a really good friend. It used very rational arguments to convince me to push on and continue living life in the face of some shitty situations. I recommend it to anyone that is not too familiar with philosophy:

Found this on Tribal Living Forum Thx 2 the Storm Goddess
she called it Living like water by Luanne

    Fluid Like a River

    Living Like Water

The journey of water as it flows upon the earth

can be a mirror of our own paths through life.

Water begins its residence on Earth as it falls

from the sky or melts from ice and cascades

down a mountain into a tributary or stream.

In the same way, we come into the world and

    begin our lives on Earth.

    Like a river that flows

within the confines of its banks, we are born

    with certain defining characteristics that

    govern our identity.

We are born in a particular

time and place, into a specific family, and with

    certain gifts and challenges.

    Within these

    parameters, we move through life,

encountering many twists, turns, and obstacles

along the way—just as a river flows.

Water is a great teacher that shows us how

to move through the world with grace, ease,

    determination, and humility.

    When a river

breaks at a waterfall, it gains energy and

    moves on.

As we encounter our own waterfalls,

we may fall hard, but we always keep going.

Water can inspire us not to become rigid with

fear or hold fast to what is familiar.

    Water is

brave and does not waste time clinging to its

past but flows onward without looking back.

At the same time, when there is a hole to be

filled, water does not flee from it, fearful of the

dark; instead, it humbly and bravely fills the

    empty space.
In the same way, we can face

the dark moments of our life rather than

    running away from them.

Eventually, a river will empty into the sea.

Water does not hold back from joining with a

larger body, nor does it fear a loss of identity

    or control.

    It gracefully and humbly tumbles

into the vastness by contributing its energy

    and merging without resistance.

    Each time

we move beyond our individual egos to

become part of something bigger, we can try

our best to follow the lead of the river.

In high school I read the bible religiously and obsessively. I mean that literally. It taught me concepts completely foreign to an adolescent, like humility. Even though I reject the idea of a christian god now, a lot of the passages I read at the time come back to me occasionally and I relate their moral messages to my own life. I think the Bible is a brilliant book, if you read it for reasons other than self-justification.

Now I remember why I hate the bible as much as I like it. There are some stupid ideas in there. Good old Nietzsche was on to something.

I pick and choose as i go through, in interpret one way, and then another. I sometimes think my motivation for mentioning my faith is a trolling effort to see what reactions i'd get.

I dont believe in church or priests, i believe in an angry God obsessed with order that is stubborn and a saviour that is all loving. I believe this because it makes sense to me, i believe this because i want to. I wouldn't tell anyone else to believe what i believe.

I also have a theory at the moment that God, Jesus and the Devil are expressions of internal mechanisms similar to that of Freudian concepts of the unconcious. It may well be possible that the messiah is not a man but a place inside all of that we have evolved to have the potential to express.

So those are my beliefs, i wouldnt want anyone to think that, i think, others are wrong for feeling any different.

    P.S.
For a Christian pseudo intellectual, i havent read any Nietzshe... isnt that sad? :(

I highly recommend it. I used it to retrain my thought process and filter out my limiting beliefs. So far, so good.

I can't read Nietzsche, yet. My eyesight sucks, my mind can't focus well and his writing is way too complicated and convoluted to follow. From what I have read that summarizes his work, I can see that he has some really good ideas...particularly that Christianity is an over sympathetic, comforting religion that teaches people to seek shelter from pain in an invisible man, and dissuades us from ever wanting to really achieve anything extraordinary because in God we have everything we need and our wants and desires are deemed unimportant as a result. This is a pretty relevant philosophy for christianity taken literally, but not necessarily in the fashion that you follow it.

In relation to the way you appear to see things, I really like this quote from a Kurt Vonnegut novel....

"Believe in the harmless untruths that make you brave and happy and healthy and kind"

i know you asked for one, but i know i'll end up posting several.
here are a few books that maybe weren't drastic in their impact, but they've been incredibly long lasting. And I hope someone loves them as much as i do:
