There have been some threads in the past about how people react negatively to your hair, well what about the positive ones? My mom always say that they look great and I shouldn't comb them out EVER (I just think she doesn't wanna go through the hassle of finding a person to do them again, heh). My grandmother on my dad's side is from the Caribbean and she says that there's "Nothing wrong with the Rasta look". Probably kinder than most people's grandmothers in that matter. xD I think my dad's jealous, he had dreads for YEARS but then cut them off when he started to bald. I get compliments all the time, but most people here have never seen dreads before are speechless and don't want to comment because they think it's a religious thing or something.
Little old ladies love my hair. Some of them have told me they wish they had the courage to get locks. How cute!
I have had a recent onslaught of nice comments. I had family visiting that hadn't seen them yet and both my mother and sister think they look great on me and that they really suit me. I did not truly anticipate this as my mom is a hairstylist, but I think she figures it's more of a style than I used to have... lol Also, last week my next door neighbour was going on and on about how she loved them (her and her hubby are retired) and how much they suit me. And she too was a hairstylist. I feel great about my dreads at the moment because everyone that means something to me has given me their stamp of approval.... I never expected that. I'm walking on clouds! =)
yesterday my boyfriend's son's mother (ugh!) and my boyfriends mother said they were cool and the texture was looking more and more like the locks that they are used to seeing (they are black ladies).
When I was traveling, people in LA shit bricks over my hair for some reason. It gave me such a confidence boost that ever since I haven't fussed about my dreads at all.
i love it when i get comments...i was in the airport last month and i noticed a girl looking at me, and she comes over to throw something away (i happen to be next to the trash can) and she said "nice locks" and it made me happy and i said thank you.
I live in a realli posh area and I think most of the people round where I live are intimiadted by them for some reason, or maybe they just don't notice themin the city though I get a lot of stares and compliments and when I'm out drinking too. Some people would surprise you. Like this realli posh bird in the pub last week stopped me and said my hair was amazing. And then these crazy knacker kid came up to me and asked me how I did them as she wanted them. strange.
I...Think I know what "the" means, but the rest is just... From now on I'm imagining you with a funny British accent! xD
You Irish? That's where Dublin is right? Sorry just noticed you're from Dublin. But people just comment on how my dreads are looking better. No one really has been like O Nice Dreads or anything well cept my counciler lady person she noticed lol.
this.... plus all the nigerians I know, which are a lot, love em.... aside from that just the random cool hair comment, plus I think its a flattery when people stare or when youre followed around shopping malls by cops means Im not like everybody else
I was cycling through Rotterdam around Easter this year and some strange man (His name is George, but I didn't know him when I met him) told me he liked my locks and asked me for how long I had had them and stuff. Then I asked him for directions, because I was getting lost That was the first time in 10 months that someone had spontaneously made a nice comment on my dreads. Also, people assume that I'm a vegetarian now. Which I'm not.
People love them down the pub, and there are 2 black tramps who think they are my best mate, but most people quietly disapprove.
Ah haha I was at this party in LA and this british rocker guy with russell brand hair followed me around all night touching my hair and asking me "hah deh yeh get yoh hayah like that LAAHRAAAH" and then he wanted me to "do him" (give him dreads..??) right there with a ton of people watching
