Okey, first thoughts: Do people think Gordon Brown should be the next prime Minister? And why?

 

Yes, because he will probably be the next leader of the Labour party.

 

thank you for this thread... politics is a dear subject to my heart and something i feel we are all responsible for,... glad to hear folks are keeping tabs what's going on

note: i understand from experiences here that not everyone in england feels responsible for politics and i don't wish to argue this point on this thread

I think Gordon Brown probably will be the next PM, shortly followed by David Cameron when the Tories win the next election. I don't want either. I'd support John McDonnell for the next leader of the Labour party, he's a committed socialist and anti-war MP, but I don't think he's got a chance to win the leadership contest. Brown may be slightly better than Blair, but I'm not holding my breath for any radical change. Unless McDonnell wins the contest, I won't be voting Labour. I'll probably end up voting Green or Respect....

 

cuz i felt it was good that people were being responsible but i didn't want to get in a fight cuz the last time i said british people should be responsible, everybody said i insulted the brits and there was a big fight

Okey so what do people think about Ken Livingstone as Mayor of London and what other ways do you think that could help the environment? For example pedestrianising Oxford Street, Opting for a Park and Ride scheme, blowing up Heathrow and building a new airport in Cliffe. And for the olympics, do you believe that there should be cycle paths like that in Munich OlympiaZentrum?

 

In your last post, in this thread, you only referred to England. Which are you talking about... the people of Britain or the people of England? Make up your mind.

For the record... they are not the same thing and therefore cannot be used interchangeably.

 

i see that, england is next to whales below scotland and britain implies the entire island of which historically, england brought under its subjugation and therefore the terms do have a tendency to be used interchangeably by irresponsible americans... i should be responsible

 

Since we're talking politics and you say the British should feel responsible... you, as an American, are responsible for the deaths in Iraq. Even more so than the British. How do you feel? Proud? Give yourself a *Pat on the back*.

 

you are right, we are responsible, but not guilty or something to be ashamed of... guilt and shame cripples the human spirit,... things happen for the reasons they do and we wake up everyday and let the spirit of love flow through and soon in this process of the world becoming as one as an embodiment of the love we are all born out of, it will be one of joy and not so much the sadness we see about us

but yes, we are all responsible so let's be clear of what we want the world to be so it may become that

It is very arrogant of you to assume that everyone's beliefs are the same e.g God.
I for one, do not worship the Christian God. I am more for Shinto beliefs and other forms of animism.
Organised religion is what gets us into these evil situations in the first instance.
And I cannot believe that you are not ashamed of what is going on in Iraq. Thousands of innocent Iraqi lives have been lost and for what? America wanted revenge for 9/11 and decided to scapegoat Iraq.
I am ashamed of the British involvement in Iraq... it is wrong. We should have stuck with the EU countries on this one.
Why does The USA feel that it can bombard countries with violence when America itself is screwed and disorganised? Has your government not learnt from Vietnam?

I'm generally in favour of Ken. I think he's made some mistakes, and he's not nearly as left wing as he used to be. A lot of it is all show now, symbols without substance. But he has done some very good things. I'm in favour of the congestion charge as an environmentalist policy, and support his plan to raise it for the most polluting vehicles and lower it for the least polluting ones. However, I don't think the congestion charge makes so much sense in the context of raising the tube prices to ridiculous levels. Cheap and effective public transport is the way forward for getting cars off the road....
