I was wondreing if anyone could help to answer some 'e-dummie' Questions in regards to my computer and the Internet and this forum?

I do not know very much about Computers other than to not get into the 'System Folder' and make a bunch of moving things arount from like preferences and extentions folders and stuff.

I do know this at least, my computer is a 1995 Macintosh Performa Power PC with the Apple picture on the front of it. I have Mac OS 8.1, and use Internet Explorer 5 Browser through dial up service through the phone company and have a "PPP transport Modem thing".

I am not being a smartass about the questions cause I honestly do not know the answers.

    1. I got into the Preferance of the Browser earlier and switched the 'update pages' for 'each session' to 'always' now seems it is slower than usual.

    2. When I go to a choice here and like going from 'Random Thoughts' to the 'Mind Trips' thing, when I put the arrow on top of the choice it turns into a little hand and I am not sure if I am supposed to click on it one time? Then Hurry and move it away from the choice or should I click twice and keep it on top of the highlighted box?

    3. Is it important or necessary or faster to move the mouse around a bit while the black and white ball is rolling around? Seems like if I dont move it around then it gets slow and upset?

    4. Does someone know the thing about 'subscriptions' on the browser I have it set to update the 'subscriptions' once a day?

I know that these are all simple questions to people who understand computers and I am just trying to make mine faster so I dont take like 20 minutes to read threads and reply. I know the best thing would be to get a new computer only I am on a fixed income and this computer is my only option for quite some time. I also am not able to get the Flash Plug In to install I downloaded from macromedia number 7 and every time I try to install it, it says I need to have an Mac 8.6 or higher to use it?

It seems there are all sorts of things in my 'disabled extentions' folder like different quicktimes and things only do not know if those things would help or not?

I Thank anyone in advance for advice on how to make the most of my computer I have now and maybe to make it work better. Thanks again and Peace- RX

wow...old school. i'm not a mac person, and not sure why you'd use IE on a mac, BUT,

    1. I got into the Preferance of the Browser earlier and switched the 'update pages' for 'each session' to 'always' now seems it is slower than usual.
    --I'd turn that off.

    3. Is it important or necessary or faster to move the mouse around a bit while the black and white ball is rolling around? Seems like if I dont move it around then it gets slow and upset?
--No. it's not necessary, unless you're just bored.

I know the best thing would be to get a new computer
--True, but I understand the fixed income thing. It hurts me to say this, but [shrudder] Dell does have pc's for about $299

Thanks for the advice. I did switch the Browser thing back to where it was. I am trying to talk my Mom into co-signing payments for a Dell, so far it is a slow process. I have bad credit from before I became disabled. Sucks, no one will finance- no way they can garnish a gov. Check.

I know a way you could get a free computer, all you would need is a brick. You might end up in jail though... ;)
