Hello, I have come here today to ask for help. I have stumbled upon a forum site while searching for information on EVP (electronic voice phenomena, ghost voices on tape) which has some really blatant anti-gay posts. The word gay was used on this sad little forum several times on several threads in a derogatory way. It appears that the forum moderator calls trolls who visit her site gay as a way to admonish them for rude behavior. One thread in particular caught my attention and I responded to it. I have included two posts from this thread below. The forum in question is being run by a young woman from a very rural Missouri town. The site is comprised of a very small group of posters who appear to be young, ill-informed, insensitive and steeped in ignorance. Here is one of the posts that I read that bothered me and my reply: __________________________ Get a Life Trolls YOu know I shouldn't even take time to respond to you idiots who are posting negative things in here -- and I am pretty sure the same person is posting under various names to act as though they have someone agreeing with them, btw, talk about "gay" -- but I just want to say GET A **** LIFE. If you are not interested in EVP then what makes you take time to even spend time on this site and post? Go browse your interests and quit wasting your time and making a fool of yourselves here. I can assure you that we are confident with what we do and your little negative, ridiculous comments don't bother us a bit. It just shows your shallowness and no interest in anything beyond the little narrow minded world you create for yourself. Some people look to other people and gossip to fulfill their meaning of life and some people search for the truth and higher meaning. I find it disgustingly shallow for a person to criticize others who are interested in nature and creation. If you do, why is that? It seems to me that your posting community is a little on the slim side so why would you want to alienate such a large group of people who might surf in to check out your forum? Why would you risk labeling yourself a bigot? Let me ask you this Melissa, have you ever met a gay person? I understand that you live in a rural area but surely you've run into at least one gay person. What do you have against these people that you would use the label "gay" as a derogatory remark toward someone that you don't like? Did a gay person hurt you at some point that you would feel this way and feel it necessary to post a comment like this on a public forum? If anyone would want to help me with this situation I would be appreciative and extremely grateful as I am very frustrated and pissed off and after the response that I saw this morning I don't think that it's very likely that these people will admit to any wrong doing at all. Ignorance and arrogance can be challenging enemies. It's important to recognize that both parties in this situation are separate individuals and thus capable of having acceptable separate opinions. The best way to take this on is to ignore it and just set the better example.
if this melissa is young & from a rural conservative area. the term "gay" is constantly thrown around in shools as an insult its a sad fact sure.. but you got to understand that these kids hear the term many times a day .. most outgrow it & realize its not a term to be thrown around as a derogatory term usualy when theyre in theyre early 20's.. but even then they may slip once in awhile without even realixzing it..i'm not deffending the use in any way..i'm simply rying to explain the mindset..& she most likely didnt mean anything by it or even realize shed used it & actualy just now re-reading the thread i noticed the "gay" was in ""'s & is a reply to theyre using the ter,m.. yes i agree th mod should have handled it better..she shouldnt have even replied to it or discussed it & should have just banned them & deleted th thread.. but not everyones perfect maybe you should just create a thread here to discuss evp
