Hi there all you groovy folks! I have a question that I was hoping some kynd soul could answer for me. This may be more appropriate for an old school hippie, but any help is much appreciated. Several years ago I was inducted into the tribe. I was initiated in what I assume is the true old school style. (ie;first dose was lead by guide versed in what I later found resembled the tibetan book of the dead and I was given a tribal name both personal and familial) I am laughing dove memebr of the tribe of the beautiful ones. This tradition was handed down to my guide from his uncle who was and still is an authentic hippie. No r.v.'s or selling out, if you know what I mean. I am only 31 and know many of todays kyds are lacking in the proper induction. Anyone who is versed in this would be a great resource of information to me. My first and main question is, what is the meaning and or signifgance of tribal names. Have you heard of my tribe before, and do you now or ever did know anybody from this tribe? I was turned on at 18, tuned in and dropped out at 25. I am as dropped out as one can be and still be able to raise a child who is spiritually aware and still able to survive in the game as an adult. Ken Kesey (rest his amazing soul) once said , "you are either on the bus or off the bus!" I have spent many long obstacle filled years trying to catch the bus. I think I'm on, but in this crazy world it's hard to be sure. Any kind sisters, brothers and now mama's and papa's who have some spare time to share with the next generation would be welcome. In this day and age of getting high rather than true soul trippin, the few true rainbows must be nurtured to finish what you all started so many years ago. Pass me the torch my friend, the time has come. Take it easy!
Never "official" induction or hierarchy. Just a distinction between "soul trippin" and getting high. Lots of rainbows out there, it seems that which I am looking for is more obscure than I had first imagined.
My first and main question is, what is the meaning and or signifgance of tribal names. They are used to feed one's ego and make them feel hip.Lose your name and gain your soul.Love has no real name,it just is.
The only induction most of us got was by the trial and error hard knocks school of experience. "Soul Tripping" I never heard it called that, but what you are referring to, I assume, is the search for Ultimate Truth. This is very elusive . I suggest you get a copy of Be Here Now by Ram Dass (at all your local better bookstores). To which I'll add "Sometimes you can't find the bus, wouldn't know it if you did, and when on might fall off and get run over by the bus!"
True Gate 68... But then there is no truth in any "thing". Books may merely point the way, but when you are searching a sign post can be most helpful.
Hitler also wrote books, let the birds point they way.Meditation and your mind will point to the truth.
Why argue, There is truth in everything, just like nothing is the truth. I may be considerably younger and I know I probably shouldn't even be in this forum, but I must say, the way exists everywhere, be it in books, or in the army or on a mountain, there is nothing it doesn't encompass. The thing about drugs is they tend to distract the mind rather then help, at least this is what I've heard, me never haveing taken them, I find them as rather futile. One can experience the nature of things through many things, one need not take drugs which have many harmfull side affects. Well, Marry wonderings and wanderings Adiron
haha old willow is wise. I have read one line in something that made me go...WOW. Sometimes thats all you need. A crack in the door left by someone else and you just slide right through. And find yourself in a room that is totally "home". Or you can be struggling on a journey that seems to have been going on forever. we all have experiences that others can benefit from, older, younger whatever, I like to think that we are presented with signs all the time in all kinds of ways. Its up to us to be open to them and take what we can use at the time. I have learned so much from others "older" than I and much from those"younger" i have seen an old soul in the eyes of a 10 year old who was dying of cancer and realized it was a blessing.
Books also distract if one puts too much faith in the words of others. As old willow said keep your mind clear and open and you will gain insight or in the words of dylan don't follow the leaders, pay the parking meters...
Was I the only one who thought the OP sounded hokey? tribal name? initiation? WTF is this? Wiccan wars?
