It is an idea that has been around for a while. Some vegans will not eat root vegetables as they are living beings. Some other vegans only eat fallen fruit.Anyway here is an article worth looking at. http://www.derrickjensen.org/backster.html
I'm not totally convinced that plants have feelings. Even if they did, what am I supposed to eat, rocks? At least a veg*an diet requires less plants to be grown and harvested than an omni diet. I'm just making the best of a bad situation.
i don't eat anything with a nervous system. plants do not have that, therefore i eat them. anyway, being a vegetarian ends up using less plants than eating meat anyway- to feed a cow you have to use many times the acreage of plant food than is needed to feed a human. so in the end, veg*nism leads to less "suffering" for plants as well, if they are capable of suffering. it is very difficult to eat properly on a fruitarian diet. possible, but most people probably couldn't.
i'm with sage and desolation, less plants get killed with veg*n diets, and i need to eat something... unless i become one of those breatherian people!
do you honestly believe that there's such thing as a breatharian? it's just something hostile meatatarians invented to make anyone who follows an alternative diet look stupid by way of analogy... i.e., "you're a vegan? next you'll be a breatharian!"
There's been plenty of studies providing evidence that plants do "feel". I belive that plants feel harm, and if they don't, well it's just as bad. I still eat them, just like I eat animals. If this bothers you, you can become a fruitarian, which is a very healthy alternative to eating neither vegetables or meat. Because fruits are made to be eaten, you're not(in most cases) killing the plant when you eat fruit. Not only that, but you're really doing the plant a favor because you're propagating the seeds of that fruit(in a way, you are). I plan on eating a mainly fruit diet, consisting of fruits, nuts, beans and fish soemtimes, even though I really don't need it. Also, I'll be eating coco crispies for breakfast, cause thats what i eat for breakfast everyday, no matter what. Someone here is a fruitarian, they posted a really good site a while ago, I don't remember the guys name though.
Meatarians?? sounds like a term made up by hostile online vegetarians. actually there are some people who did(until they died)follow a cultish practice called breatharianism. They were under the impression that humans werent even allowed to eat plants. there's crazies all over this world. there are religions that pray because they breathe and inhale microorganisms.
maybe i am a hostile vegetarian! muahahahaha i know that there are nutjobs out there who call themselves "Breatharians," i just feel that "anorexic" is a more accurate term
I have heard of Breatharians and they are a legitimate group. Claim to get all their nutrients from the air, and will occasionally eat or drink, but only for the taste. No idea what their reasoning is. There have been cases of people dying from this, mainly due to dehydration. Meatarian is a daft word, omi/omnivore is fine.
i actually have people refer to *themselves* as "meatarians" when i mention that i'm a vegetarian. i did not make it up. anyway i said it in jest, and i'm sorry if anyone was deeply offended. and i am newly educated about this whole "breatharian" thing. i really thought it was only something that was made up as a radical "stage" of Veg*nism...
You have to be fucking kidding me "plants have feelings? " what a bunch of shit. Thats like saying the shit i took this morning had feelings too.
normally, people ignore goofballs that set themselves up like this...but I dont! LMAO! Plants are living organisms. Shit is not a living organism..it contains living organisms like bacteria but it is not on the same level as a plant. If you cant tell the difference between a live plant and a piece of shit..then you deserve to be publically mocked and ridiculed like the moron you are. And while plants lack the rather complex nervous systems and brains to register and feel pain...they do respond to stimuli, which suggests a rudementary nervous system.
i still thank the food i eat for giving itself up for me, whether or not its living (im vegan so that consists basically of my vegetables and fruits and other baked vegan goods! wonder bread if vegan ya know!)
Thank you for posting this link! I had heard about this and I always thought you should talk to the plants before you eat them of pick them from the tree/ground. This really did open me up for some more positivty and love I believe. Thank you! And this really is true! Sometimes when people die, their plants which they have had for years, die in next few days too - because of sorrow. Think about it! This is beautiful! So much love around us. Now I understand some things a lot better, for example - positive attitude towards everything, absolute love and caring about all and everything. With loving kindness, your brother
i also try to send out positve vibes to my plant friends, i'll go outside and talk and carress our tree, he was actually on the verge of being dead but if you look at him now he has the most beautiful green lively leaves i've ever seen
This is SUCH an oppertunity for love! I mean - there is so many of them out (and in) there to love! All deserve love! Have love and compassion, sing lullabies to your plant friends!
As the majority of people who post in this forum are members of a minority, whether vegan or vegetarian of any kind, we should all have an understanding of what it is like to have our beliefs mocked and to be misunderstood by naive people. So I'm just sayin that before you knock somebody elses beliefs and choice of diet just because it seems too radical, you should just think about how it would make you feel. Sometimes this forum makes me so sad
