You have to consider an organization that purports that pets should be vegetarian.
Right! Go ahead. Get a cat to eat an apple. Or get a python to drink vegetable consomme. I dare you. Better yet, sell me video of it. I need a laugh. And evidence. There's an omega that cats need to survive, the name escapes me. Without it, they lose motor function. Last time I checked that would fall under the category of willful neglect. I'm finding it indefensible that I used to make considerable donations to that organization of nutjobs.

PETA and Greenpeace are 2 orgs I don't support. I support WWF http://www.panda.org/. Endangered species and their habitats are important issues to me.

PETA is a little harsh, but i consider them like a gateway organization. they're pretty popular, and they were the reason i became a vegetarian and became interested in learning about the way animals are treated. they're sorta psycho but they've saved lives through their influence. whatever works and gets people panties in a bunch, right?

What PETA posts up on the internet is so stupid, it is not worth discussing.

Peta Is A Load Of Crap ...They Think The Safety And Health Of Animals Should Come BEFORE That Of People ...Not That Theres Anything Wrong With Animal Rights, I Just Dont Think They Should Go Bomb Some Fur-Fashion Show, To Try To Hurt The PEOPLE That Hurt ANIMALS. It Seems A Bit Hipicrytical (sp?)....But Maybe Thats Just Me..

    No, it isn't just you.

Prismatism: The points of activism and protest are not "to get people's panties in a bunch". That would fall under the categories of harrassment and irritation. Activism and Protest are about bringing about change based on public awareness and education.

I personally prefer to be the center of attention by getting peoples' panties in a bunch, but that's just me. It probably goes back to my toilet training...

They can get a little crazy at times! I grew up on a ranch and branding cattle was a must! I love animals, but you have to separate yourself from the thought!
Cattle, hogs, & chickens are meat. I am a meat eater! I am sorry if someone is offended but that was the way I was raised!

You haven't offended me any. But then again I live in Wyoming, and we rely on ranches to support us. I'd imagine there'd would be little (not that there's a whole lot of us out here) to nothing left of us if we had to stop using ranches.

I remember in my history class the other day that we were talking about animals and meat and I learned this little, interesting fact: Apparently several years back good ol' PETA decided that Wyoming would appreciate having billboards that stated that meat was wrong and ranches were the devils work (or something of that sort). How unfortunate it was for them when they found out that the people of Wyoming felt quite differently. I thought it was funny.

I remember a few years back I was totally behind PETA 100%. Then I actually looked into them and found myself overwhlemed with the fact that PETA is just as hating as their fur-wearing friends. They seem a bit crazy to me. I like the concept, just not their way of actin' through with it.

You also have to consider a species that forces another species to eat chopped livers and entrails from other animals that they wouldn't naturally eat by means of opening a can - a cat or a dog eating a vegetable or a fruit is much more 'natural' - my friends cat is vegan and has been for over 4 years and he's perfectly fine, so what's your point with the omega? he gets it just fine...
what makes me laugh, is the portion of the human race that truely believes it is natural for humans to eat meat - how about you sell me a video of yourself chasing down a 1000pound cow and consuming it there on the spot with your barehands and 'sharp' teeth, i need a good laugh... :)

i wouldn't say hypocritical, doing justice is more like it... :)

but what gives human animals more right to exist than a non-human animal?

so let's see.... I am vegan, believe in animal liberation, and I personally do not like peta... not that peta has done anything horrible or anything, they mean well, but they end up pissing a lot of people off and go for shock value in terms of outreach, but they do get a lot of good things done.
    better organizations/sites than peta/'s

    www.cok.net
    www.vegnews.com
    www.mercyforanimals.org

if you have any questions regarding animal rights/liberation feel free to ask me, i'd be happy to help :)

Nothing, I'm All For Animal Rights, I Just Don't Believe Peta Goes About Thiere Business In A Very Appropriate Manner. If Someone Supports/Buys/Wears Fur Or Animal Skin For Example, I Don't Think Being Pie-d In The Face (Or Bombed For That Matter) By A Crazed Peta Member Will Solve Anything.

They Say That They Want Peace, But Returning The Favor Just Is'nt Peace In My Book...

yea, peta starts off with good intentions, they just execute it in a very extreme way that i don't agree with.
but then, i have a very 'live and let live' policy, i don't eat meat, i don't wear fur,
if someone challenges my views on it/is disrespectful to my right to eat what i think is right, threatens my right etc, or is just interested in having a conversation about my choices, i'm more than happy to talk with them.
i'm just not for shoving my beliefs down people's throats, and i treat people as i would like to be treated: i may disagree with their way of life, but i absolutely respect their right to do it as they think is right.

Zoomie: what i meant by getting "panties in a bunch" was that they got ME excited about animal rights, they got me pissed off at people who are cruel to animals. and by doing so, they got me to become a vegetarian. and now that i know what happens, i don't really care HOW i found out. hopefully that makes sense :).

    ScreamingMisanthrope: i love you

To you. To them it's called malnutrition and while I can't speak for where you live, they take pets away from people and jail them for it.

Omega complex from vegetables? From which mail order company did you get your science degree? Come on, admit you know nothing about animal nutrition and we won't all think you're an idiot. Well, I can promise I won't...

I'll get right to work on that video, Dan. But outside of that, I have nothing against vegans, I was one for quite a time. I eat very little animal protein and don't really feel the need to label myself to be popular. Let's just call me an occasional omnivore. But the last time I checked, humans have been eating meat for... oh, I don't know, a few hundred thousand years. We wouldn't want to set a trend or a precendent now would we?
