    Honestly, what's with this?
The more popular PETA gets, the more shit I hear about them.
"PETA kills animals, blah blah blah, PETA lies".

For a meat-eater, I do understand how PETA is annoying with their relentless effort to reform animal laws, but I respect that.
They've done more to help animals than I ever will and I understand that they have to pester the world in order for it to change.

    what's with the scandals

I am a meat-eater, hater of PETA check out my facebook group, and probably the inspiration to this thread since I just made an anti-PETA post.

I don't see how their relentless effort to change animal laws would bother meat eaters (except hunters and fisherman maybe), could you please explain that to me?

What does bother me is that they put other animals over humans. Now, attacking people because they are wearing what looks like it may be fur would be plenty for me, but they also support domestic terrorist groups that firebomb medical research facilities.
What does bother me is that they attack children's psychological welfare in attempts to convert them.
[IMG] (cover of a PETA comic book that was passed out to children in front of a showing of The Nutcracker in Manhattan)
What does bother me is that so many well-meaning vegetarians blindly support them.
What bothers me is that they profit off of human misery.

    Facebook? Not interested.
I don't even know you or what you're up to. Bahaha, it just occurred to me.
You just explained how it bothers meat eaters, so I don't think I need to explain it.

The point I'm making is that no matter what, they do more good than they've ever done bad.
Sort of like the government. We can bitch all we want about how we hate our government but if we were starving, they will provide an income and food for us, man.

I like your manuscript by the way. Nice and depressing. Remind to me to rep you when I can.

Well, explain it again for me then, cause I missed it..
So, it's okay to support firebombing as long as you do it for a good cause?

Bad doesn't create good. If they are doing bad things, they are bad.

Thank you for reading, and even more for responding =)

You need to understand, peta is like a friend that does something that you are against.

You said PETA would piss off hunters and fishers. And all the meat-eaters I know hate PETA because of the graphic videos and constant shoving of animal cruelty in their face. A lot of meat-eaters actually care about animals, they just don't have the will or care enough to change their habits. That doesn't mean they want to see their food getting abused before they eat it.
I don't support the negative parts of things, but I do know this :
I have four vegetarian friends, and all of us becoming vegetarian had something to do with PETA.

None of us are really that interested in the organisation, (hence my lack of knowledge about it), but their literature, journalism, videos, statistics, etc. brought us into the world of vegan/vegetarianism.

Also, every vegan/vegetarian I've met was influenced by PETA. So my point kinda is, they get the job done, despite having radical, insane leaders.

(oh and do you think there's any way you could send me your manuscript? I'm a writer aswell, and I kinda dig aspiring writers...or well..aspiring anythings)

I've met vegetarians that have been raised that way, and I've met vegetarians that's religion requires them to be, I've met vegetarians that started cause a friend was doing it, and I've met vegetarians that were introduced to the idea from PETA but now denounce it (PETA that is, not vegetarianism).

By supporting the organization in any form, you are supporting all the acts they do - the good and the bad.
Just like by paying for Walmart's cheaper shoes you are also supporting China's slavery - they also employ handicapped - but they still use slavery.

Some PETA people can get a little self-righteous and pompous at times, but so can plenty of vegans and straightedgers and people of any given religion and so forth.

However most are cool, sympathetic, compassionate people.
Also, they are responsible for some really hot girls stripping and getting in cages and so on. Seriously, do some google-image search magic - it's better than real porn. Lots of celebrities who are all "I'm too special to show my cans in a film" will do nude pics in a heartbeat for PETA. Plus lots of hot-feminist-protest chicks who would never show an inch of skin normally are like "SHOOP DA WOOP I'LL TAKE MY PANTS OFF FOR THE BUNNIES". But I digress.

    I like PETA.

    yes! ha.

anyway duck, yes I would support the good and bad because I believe PETA always does more good than bad, on a MAJOR scale.
Besides, they effectively expose people to the truth that leads to many converting to vegetarian or veganism anyway, which is the most important part (in my eyes).

After that, mindless meat-eaters will be mindless vegans when they convert.
Thoughtful meat-eaters will be thoughtful vegans and they'll ask people to give them the dirt on their favourite organisation and listen earnestly rather than follow blindly.
    :D

That's one of those cheap shots that help to make me hate them. Using celebrities for activism is only fair if they are B-listed damnit! =P

But seriously, the Eva Mendes pictures were great; but yesterday I was going through bookmarks trying to "clean off" the bookmarks of my family computer and one site was an Eva Mendes photo shoot where she was only wearing fur. I wanted to bring that up yesterday but didn't know how, so thanks =P
(PS I'm not trying to use the Eva Mendes thing against PETA - she's the one being hypocritical in this case, just conversing)

Agreed... I wouldnt go vegetarian for PETA... But that doesn't mean I don't believe in animal rights or don't think vegetarians are trying to support a good cause. I jut think PETA is going about it all wrong... As for being angry at the government. Even if I was starving I wouldn't go to the government for food.
