So I've been planning to do geography at uni for a little while now and probably still will. But on the march yesterday I sort of got thinking that I would love to do a degree in peace studies, and I was wondering if anybody knew anyone who had. It would mean re-evaluating whether I want to go into conservation or if I want to do something with the degree. I ahve a feeling most jobs you could get with it would be office jobs, which wouldn't really suit me so much.
I'm actually hoping to do a masters in War studies in a few years and any PEace studies type degree will involve probably an element of war/conflict studies Ive not done a degree in peace studies but I have studied some related topics. I guess careers you could go into after wards could be the civil service, NGOs, business? YOu should look into specific courses at specific unis as they will vary a lot in what you study.. some will be more scientific than others.. If you want to have a look at someone who writes about peace. read Johann Galtung http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_Galtung He writes a lot about the origins of peace and conflict and has interesting ideas about when a country is peaceful
I believe the University of Bradford pioneered the teaching of Peace Studies in this country and they claim to have the largest academic centre for the study of peace and conflict in the world. Apart from that though I'm not sure it's somewhere you'd want ot spend 3 years of your life... http://www.brad.ac.uk/acad/peace/
Were you in Plymouth on saturday?? I thought i recognised you from the pictures on here but i wasn't sure. If it was you i was in the wildlife conservation group too..
who, me? I wasn't, though I would like to have been! and funnily enough I'd like to go to Plymouth uni too.
I am hoping to do a btec in Music Tech. I did study world war one. It was quite interesting how at christmas, Germans and English would play football. They didn't want to kill each other, but they were told to do so by their chiefs. This changes the whole theory of how England hates Germany. I think we never did. Well, Adolf got up our noses, but before then, we were alright with him. Apparently Hitler had one testicle and had a wife called Pink Rabbit. I think she genuinely was a rabbit
I wonder what goes on in your head John True about WW1 though, many soldiers wondered why they were shooting Germans and not French....
