Ok. Everything I have read about quilting says to do scant quarter inch seams. I understand what that means. But when you are doing patchwork for clothes what do YOU use for the seam allowance? Still a quarter or 5/8 or half an inch. What works best? Also if I use pinking shears or a pinking rotary will that keep my edges from fraying (since I don't have access to a serger anymore)? Or should I take the time to zig-zag the edges of the patchwork? (Seems really time consuming, I want an easy way out. ) Thanks guys and gals.
When you read about quilting, they are assuming that you plan to make an actual quilt, so the seam allowances would be hidden inside. So for unlined patchwork, I recommend a larger seam allowance. If you want something that will last, I recommend zig-zagging.
I did a skirt before I had a serger that I pinked the edges of, and didn't zig-zag, and it's falling apart now, so definatly zig-zag the edges!
