i was raised christian but i lean toward buddism in my beliefs- but none of my beliefs fit completely into one religion- i was wondering how yall know that buddism is the right religion for you. like how are you completely convinced that its right since there are so many religions and beliefs out there. i dont know how to phrase it but how can i learn to be confident in what i believe? bc like how do we know we dont have it all completely wrong? there are so many theories out there
well, for one thing, the buddha taught that you should even question HIM and what his teachings are. basically, believe absolutely nothing until it is verified by you to be true. for me, i know it´s right because it feels like it is. it´s been a long process to where i am now, but that´s because i´ve learned to trust my instincts and to go with what "somehow feels right." also, ever since the first time i began learning about buddhism and taoism, it was like they were putting into words all this stuff that i had already been feeling and had figured out through other means. at a certain point, i also began to see what i DIDNT believe in and what i never had (brought up christian...) which helped to figure out what i DO believe in. all the best with your spritual and actual travels...
I wish I had learned to trust my instincts that young....... instead, I kept going with my brain, cuz the system told me I was smart...... Now I trust my instincts, follow my heart, go with my gut feeling, use the force, whatever you want to call it. It works for me, too. I agree, we could be all totally wrong. I doubt it though. I like Buddhism, though I have been told it is a spiritual philosophy, as opposed to a religion. Even His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that whether or not you are Buddist is not so important, just try to be a good person. For me, I will never join any one church, I feel all contain members who are good people, and all of them have merit. Buddism, and local Native American spiritual beliefs, are closest to what I feel in my heart. But, Jesus is a hero of mine, and the Koran taught me valuable things, so I will not discount any source of spiritual knowledge. To me, atheists are just as spiritual as anyone.
