Ya know, it's funny. All the liberals I know complain that Oregon is too "red". All the Republicans I know complain that it is a liberal hell hole.
That makes it about perfect, in my opinion. When the Democrats and Republicans are fighting, they're too busy to take away our freedom.
I've found Oregon to be far more tolerant of diversity than CA. Strange, I live in the same city as the op.
Oregon's a great place for people who want to be left alone, and don't want to infringe on other's rights.
He's right about the jobs, though. Better plan on bringing one with you.

We loved the mixture of rednecks and hippies in our lil town in Oregon. The only thing that sucked is lots of rich republican assholes from California are moving up to Oregon, esp. Southern Oregon. They're not redneck or hippy friendly. The property prices are getting ridiculous because of this influx also. Bah... I miss oregon, we're in Pennsyltucky right now but we're definitely moving back once we've got the loot.

Ive lived here all my life and it is a very racist place to live. But, thats all changing now isnt it?????? Its got medical marijuana, which is great, but all the dr.'s here are terrible and the cost of living is not worth it.

I lived originally in Detroit, Mi, then moved to Manhattan, NY for 2 1/2 years, and now have been living in Portland for almost 3 years.

I think the cost of living in Oregon is the same as Michigan. Housing is the same. It's actually pretty reasonable prices considering it's a coast state.

Regarding racism, I haven't encountered any negativity personally since I've lived here.
