Hi Everyone I joined the site a few weeks ago but haven't been on much. I recently started travelling in my old but comfortable and, at the risk of tempting fate reliable, camper van. I have a double burner with grill cooker a fridge, sink and lots of storage. It's a poper little home from home.......well home as I've not got another one to return to, it's just occured to me. I've been to Wales and camped overlooking miles of water surrounded by nothing and views that would cost me hundreds of pounds if i was in a hotel. I've seen barn olws, fox cubs, birds and mammals of all manner, the like of which I'd never have seen living in a city. I've visited the Lancashire coast, collected and aten fresh mussels, crabs and razor clams. And one niight when I was a little lost and time was dragging on I found a nice little layby just outside Haigh Hall in the heart of Wigan. My intention is to keep travelling around the north west and . I've had a few months of getting used to the life, finding the places to get a shower, wash clothes, buy food and use public conveniences!!! Now I'm looking for someone who might like to join me, even if only for the summer. The ideal candidate would be female...obviously.....best over 30 as I'm over 40.....and have a love and desire to be away from the rat race. I'm sick of the world and i want to get off......but as i can't i want to opt out. It would help if she can fish, oesn't mind killing and or plucking a pheasant and be happy as ong as she's clean, dry and well fed and if she can read a map even better. Anyway I get to see my email a couple of times a week so anyone interested drop me a line and I'll ge back next time I'm in the net cafe.
Hi. Your post was very cool. I would be up for it but two things....I am a guy and have a small but very cute dog. I can read maps, fish, hunt, skin/de-feather and cook. Will look forward to your response but, whatever happens, I truly wish you luck and happiness:sunny:
Hi M8 Cheers.....I tell you what my man......I'm not gay or owt Mark but.........I'm not completely against the idea of a fellow guy travelling companion it's just I'd prefer a pretty young nymph! As I'm sure you can appreciate? Having said that if I don't have an offer after a reasonable amount of time, and you're still up for a bit of a road trip we'll look at givin it a go....if that's ok with you? Thanks for the words of support. I caught my first fish today. It was a 5lb perch I think! It's a good life in this weather so hopefully the hot summer days and the crystal clear countryside nights. With it's millions of stars, will attract a nymph or two he he. Keep the faith. DW
Great post, if I could add to your rep I would As someone who has already been living the opt-out with my family I can only add my support and experiences. It has it's ups and downs, mainly financial, but in short if you need any advice just shoot me a message and I'll do my modest best. Madesh
Hi Madesh At the minute I'm not too bad financially but to be honest I've been thinking if I'm going to opt out then I should do it properly and use money as little as often if ever. I know I need diesel to move around and gas for my cooker if I'm not somewhere where I can build a fire but really food shouldn't be a problem. I'm just a greenhorn and althugh I'm happy enough to deal with stuff once it's caught I don't really yet have the skills to catch it. And I didn't realise fish were such big and potentially dangerous bstards with big sharp teeth! If you know of any meets or gatherings anywhere within 75 miles of Manchester where I might beg a bit of free tuition I'd be gratefu to hear. Anyway wont be able to get on line now till fri so any hippy chicks lookin to live the dream or anyone with help or advice that replies thanks in advance and I'll see you soon
Good luck to you, sir - I'm wondering how you got started on such an adventure? Was it a planned, sell-up and go job or more drop everything and plod?
Well it was kind of limited options to be honest. I was living in a static caravan on a nice site in Cheshire but the site was closing for a month.......something to do with council tax I think.......anyway I had to move. I was trying to get a boat but was let down and was offered the camper really at the very last minute. I've been living in it since Feb and am now quite enjoying the experience, especially as the weather is so nice. I have to stay close to manchester as my mum is quite ill and i try to get to see her most days....but that's only going to be for as long as she lasts, which is unlukely to be much longer. I will be on the front at Colwyn Bay tomorrow parked on the left as you drive away from the centre on the coast rd. I'm going to try a bit of night lining and crabbing. So if ayone is in the area and fancies meeting up we can eat, smoke and make merry for a while. I know there's no problem with camper van parking but I don't know about tents. If anyone knows of anyone that might like to swap a campervan for a canal boat please pass on my details. I'm not looking for a 50' barge obviously, just something that floats and has the basics. I'll be able to check my mssges later and in the morning but not again after that till Tuesday night. So if anyone fancies a meet and see what we can catch and eat just say hi to the guy in the white renault camper.
