Sage (age 5) really loves doing workbook pages. We have used Scholastic, Gifted and Talented, and about 4 other types bought at the book store (or even at the drug store or grocery store!) I am looking for spelling at about a 1st grade level, reading at a 3-4th grade level and math at about a 2nd to 4th grade level. Science can be anything appropo for a 5 year old. Is there anything online I could download or print for free? (Or a minimal cost.) Or would it be cheaper to just keep buying the books at the store? `I've used the Search Engine and I can't see much. Does anyone know of online pages, that are welldone and good for kids?
which search engine did you use? because i found a wealth of printables. you may want to set aside an afternoon or stay up late with a mug of cocoa just surfing around. there's a lot of freebies for teachers & homeschoolers online, but you need to be willing & able to sit down & sift through it all. worksheets really didn't work for my son's learning style, he's more a hands-on mess-in-the-kitchen type of learner. for awhile i tried teaching him time & math operations from worksheets printed with an online generator, but he resisted that. he learned best himself from computer programs & tasks around the house. i can't find the math worksheet generator i used, but this one looks really good: http://www.superkids.com/aweb/tools/math/ i once found a wonderful mom's website full of all kinds of printable freebies, but alas, our harddrive was recently wiped out & i lost the bookmark. this site looks interesting: http://www.abcteach.com/ although i haven't checked it out in depth because, as i said, my son resists worksheets & learns better other ways. who knows how my daughter's learning style will develop, (she seems a lot more "bookish") so let me know what you think. for yourself, if you're interested in a printable planner, there are several good ones here: http://www.thehomeschoolmom.com/gettingorganized/planner.php including a good daily "assignment" (or "learning activity goals" for us) sheet, that is organized without being over-structured. we're pagan, so of course we don't teach daily bible verses, so i customized my master sheet with wite-out, writing in our own subjects. there is an assignment planner available for multiple children, but the way it's structured, it's assuming they're all learning the same subjects at the same time, which isn't very helpful for me since i have an 8 year old & a preschooler. i wish i could remember the site i found our weekly homeschool journal on. i love it because it just has spaces for the date, time spent & activity, and then a grid where you can check off what subject that activity might apply to. it's perfect for us, as we're "unschoolers" and often activities or discussions will cover several subjects. this format makes the usual chaos of unschooling record-keeping so much easier! edited to add: if you find a worksheet or planner format that you think you're going to reuse, save your money & your toner, print out a master sheet, customize it if necessary, and take it to a print shop for copies. trying to print out a month of planner pages will really wear down your printer, use up a lot of paper & toner, and cost a lot more. and don't forget to print worksheets double-sided! i've seen a lot of moms wasting paper with single-sided worksheets. it all adds up, in money & trees!
worksheet junkies, check this out: http://www.edhelper.com/ it appears to be a teacher's resource that allows you to create worksheets at any grade level for just about anything. there's a spelling & vocab worksheet generator that allows you to load your own word list...looked like a lot more. again, didn't spend too much time there because my kid hates worksheets (OK i admit that i'm the one that likes them!) but this looks like a killer resource for those with kids that will tolerate them! this is not a free service, however, but it doesn't look like subscriptions cost a lot, unless you have a really wide range of ages to teach. k-8 & high school are separate subscriptions at $20 a year, or you can get an "everything" package that gives you access to everything on the page. if your kids are serious worksheet learners, it may be well worth the investment.

Thank you, I'll look into these. Yeah, every kid is different. I don't think there was anything that would have made my oldest sit still and do workbook pages, but Sage loves them. She is a LOT like me. I loved workbook pages when I was little. And them my mother stopped buying them because she said the school "told her" that home educating would "confuse" the child. *sigh* She never stood up for stuff.

We like learnigpages.com, they offer wonderful unit studies covering math, language arts and science for grades k-5. MY wife likes how they bring all the subjects together, and I really like the price
