what do you think is better, old school punk or new school punk. what do you think is the boundaries for them? for example, i think old school punk is from 70's-1989, and new school is from 1990-now. i think old school is better, although i enjoy new school. i dont really care about which ones better, and i dont feel strongly about either. its just something to discuss. also, whats your favorite old/new school bands?
i like the dead kennedys, circle jerks, misfits, subhumans, the new york dolls, the germs, vice squad, and x-ray specs
for new school, i like nofx, flogging molly, suicide machines...
i dont care what u think about the bands i like.... its not the pont of the thread. i dont even think there should be a difference, because ita all just a label. if anything, it should all jut be called "music"

Definately old school, the best punk is from the 1970's.

    There is no "new punk".

That's like saying there's a new jam band. Or a new grunge band. Shit like that just doesn't work.

My favorite punk is definetely the music that came out of the 70's, but there have been great punk bands through the years and there are still good ones around today.

They'll never truly be punk as long as we all keep objecitng to it. Since when did we give mtv the pwoer to brand music what they deemed it?

Hey, if a pop-punk band has a song on eMp-TV and that leads a kid to seek out the ramones, the misfits, the clash, the stooges, black flag, dead kennedys and/or X, then hell yeah, they're punk... sell a billion more Green Day if it means even just one more junior-high mohawked punklette.

Subversion is done from within the system, my children!

Well there's some classic bands from both eras. Yet i'd say i prefer old school. New school punk is a lot more elitist and has grown more underground in order to remain punk.
