It's horrible, with this in combination with the machines that grow and sell plants without sunlight we're going to see a future with no environment and machines that do everything for us. Plants and other animals deserve the same amount of dignity and respect that people do!

Technology may seem to make things easier now but it's not going to last forever

 

technology is accumulated knowledge. picking up a rock and then tying that rock on a stick is technology. it's all in how its used.

That's weird. Poor crabs, they could be in a tank in a restaurant instead.

 

there's a huge difference between a machine that does the entire task for you and a tool that you use to complete the task.

You can't have any of the positives of technology without having all of the negatives: loss of character from never working hard, damage to the environment, killing. These things may not seem like a big problem now to most, but the problem is growing quickly.

 

I wasn't too concerned and thought you were being alarmist, but I definitely do not like how cramped they look in those packages.

I wonder if the temperature they are keeping them in to keep them "fresh" are anywhere close to the temperatures those crabs normally live in

 

Im not sure...but Chinese ocean water doesnt strike me as being cold from what I seen on tv

 

These vending machines are kept at temps that are near hibernation temps for crabs. They basically hibernate while in those machines untill you purchase them.

 

Honestly, it sounds like a good idea to me, I don't see the problem... Cruelty is one thing, eating is another... they're subdued any way, not like their "mind" is racing in there...

I could see considerable problems vending some types of vertebrate in this fashon, but this is just NOT something to get worked up about.... that's what loses respect from the middle ground (the accessible ground we should be fighting for) and gets anyone who cares labeled insane. We're worrying about fucking chinese seafood vending machines hours from the prop19 results... seriously?

That shit looks downright humane if you think about what happens to live kittens in those same citys markets. Nah, I really can't make myself give two fucks about the crabs, or see it as an issue worth even thinking about compared to the rest of the world.

this is old news. when i was college, the biology department had refrgerated live crabs and, other live animals speices that go into hibernation in a refregrated state.

ok, this is in japan. i would guess, that the crabs are eaten raw. in other words they are a kind sushi.

you find people in some cultures that eat animals while alive.

it not the kind of thing i would do though.

 

when I seen the sentence start with "when I was in college" I totally expected a different crab story :rofl:
