I do my own kind of surreal paintings, with oil. I thought I'd post one up here. If you want to see more of them, go to http://www.duskvermilion.com/paintings.htm - I have some more I can put up, but I need a new camera. To make this interactive, I have posted a poll. Here is a cropped photo of the painting:

I have a lot of texture in the oil, you can see some of it with the way light reflects off it. Its a pretty simple painting, not really detailed or anything. The main thing I wanted to do was create interesting brush and color patterns. You can't really see it here, but the eyes are brushed to be spiral/whirpools of yellow.

I saw your website. The one named "faces and light" was definently the best one. Soon i will put up some of my own work here.

My first guess was an owl.
There's a lot of movement in your paintings.
Your style reminds me of Edvard Munch.

Thanks - thats the third person to say they liked faces and light. I guess its not as bad as I thought.

Edvard Munch eh? Thats cool, I always liked the scream. It has an interesting story to it too.

The waffles are there, but you have to imagine them first.

Waffles don't look as cool as their name sounds. If I were to paint a waffle, it would have wings, and wheels, and instead of looking life a waffle, be a bunch of rings circling in space. But then again, I'm into surrealism.

Thanks for the compliment, I layered the oils in patterns - the blue backgrounds layered, and then the brownish red bark on top - so they would be kind of an eye feast. I'm kind of minimalist in the amount of mixed colors I will use, maybe because Im lazy, or maybe because I don't want to ruin a painting that looks good by making it too much this or that. As for if its an owl or a cat, its both and neither (in the end, its up to the viewer to come up with their own truths about a work of art), tho I admit it looks more like an owl to me because of the placement of the eyes.
