THE HAMMOCK TRIBE WILL BE EXCLUDING THEMSELVES FROM THIS YEARS GATHERING. THAT MEANS NO COUNCIL TO BE HELD, NO H2O SUPPLY, NO WATER TRANSPORTATION, NO TRASH TRUCK FOR CLEANUP, NO CALM SET UP. THE ONLY SITE AVAILABLE THIS YEAR IS A POOP-HOLE, MAJORLY LITTERED WITH RED-NECK TRASH, ONE WAY IN-ONE WAY OUT (Meaning A-Camp takes over Bus Village).
IT'S UP TO US (Road-Dogs, Travellers, Spunyons, Hippies migrating to Fl.) TO MAKE THIS SUNNY, WINTER GATHERING A PEACEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL ONE. A PART OF RAINBOW IS, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.
TO LOVE THE UNLOVABLE. THAT'S WHY I'M NOT EXCLUDING MYSELF. FLORIDA GATHERING IS FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH DUALITY (more than i've seen at any gathering the past few years) BUT, HIPPIES ALWAYS COME BACK. THIS YEARS GATHERING WILL BE A BIT INTENSE, BUT IT WILL BE EQUALLY WONDERFUL.

I'm from Ocala, and the Ocala gatherings always gave me bad vibes. A-camp always seemed to take shit over with their aggro-beligerance. Florida in general is bad news right now. I couldn't get out fast enouGH!!!

just a observation from one who hasnt been to ocala in many years,,,

since the talk of ocala has started this has been a big part of the topic, after reading this seemingly panicked post on top of the rest all i can say is i see why they backed out..

seems like a lot of folks(not all) relied on them for far to much for far to long.
that bein said, it is ocala,it will go on same as every year, some will hate it some will love it.

and in the end it will have been just another year at ocala..

So it has been proven that all the weekend rainbow warriors can't get their own water . We ( as a group ) have been relying on the Hammock Tribe for the water buffalo and the trash truck/ water hauler for far too long if they are have made such a drastic decision to not be there for this years 'gathering'. Why? Well, there is Florida Naturals bottling plant in Umatilla, where food grade containers can be obtained for a little green energy, if not nothing. The trash has always been a problem - my bus ain't gonna be there to haul it out, and since all the virtual rainbows can only condem A-camp, and not the other 75-80 % of Gathering attendees about their trash and what-not. And , let us forget that MOST of the trash left is at the main trailhead, and in the woods, where whoever ends up picking it up ( not the aforementioned weekend rainbozos ) has to schlep it to the road. As opposed to A-camp and front gate , who make their own mess where it can easily be picked up. Hmmm. I feel like RANTING a bit today, must be because I've been sober for 3-1/2 years :anger: I've yet to see anyone post some alternate ideas to make this years "gathering" happen. Blaming A-camp for the woes is a croc of shit. You all know it. I've asked before - Have you brought your trash out when you left the woods? Even once? I have spent alot of time observing the high holies and they are usually the biggest hippiecrits. IF it's about what isn't going to happen this year, then why doesn't everyone just say that, and stop pointing fingers. There should be enough people to get the stuff the Hammock tribe won't provide ( with damn good reasons I might add ) to make Ocala happen just as it always has. Or not. Personally, My Bus and crew is heading out west to be a public nuisance and watch the sun set over the Pacific. I'll watch this board and laugh when my predictions come true, and mayhaps shed a tear ( from laughing when I see the virtual rainbows talk trash about us .) ENjoy

Rainbow Hammock Tribe, who plan to occupy a pay site during the Gathering, are not the only pholks that will be sitting on the sidelines this year. Luke is gone, Arjay and Cindy are in Oregon having a Baby, Dirty Mama and Flickerfeather are going through personal stuff and expect to limit their involvement. I remain on the sidelines after three years of signing and lots of other things in my life, Cinote and Palm Tribes are no more, Dragongfly and Bliss are gone, clearly it will be an entirely different gathering and a whole new crop of focalizers.

But there will be others who step up to the plate. For in another sense, this is a great opportunity for family to participate. There are a couple of major Festivals (Marley and Langarado) on the Horizon drawing new and traditional pholk south. Ocala is always filled with enthusiastic young family and is often the birhtplace of kitchens and tribes. I would be surprized if it did not happen that way again. There will be both old and new kitchens at Ocala and I expect that these will provide the driving forces at this year's Gathering.

Council has been called for Sunday, Januay 13th, in Florida Family's traditional Council site, at the Third Hammock on the trail to Farles Prarrie. The decision will be, as happens every year for more then 20, made by concensus and local, visiting and wintering family. Final scouting, traditionally takes place on the Saturday before, which this year is January 12th, and that should help complete ongoing discussions. Council is expected to announce a Gathering that will take place from February 14th to February 28th. Seed Camp is expected to begin on February 7th and Cleanup expected to be mostly completed by March 1st.

Truely this is not a great year for a 3 month holding camp and a 3 week seed camp, as happened five years ago, when we last occupied Syracuse Island, a site being considered and scouted. The site does have only one road in, or did, the way it was used five years back. It was filthy, at the time, and that was part of the reason for the long seed camp. My understanding from some who have done preliminary scouting is that while far from pristine, it is in much better shape this year. Some have claimed that biggest problem, other then a single road is the wonderful, huge Oak Hammock that houses Bus Village, Discourages pholks hiking inside. As for our drinking family, Raven has done some work in the past few years, and hopefully will be called upon to find a suitable location for our A-Camp family and their Bar. Front Gate is again expected to be sober and several people that I have heard from expect to be manning (or womaning) it. Trucks for clean-up and water carrying are needed as well as a new team for Main Supply, but these will come as well.

I cannot predict of the Annual's Permit sig accomidation will or will not be applied to Ocala, but an Operating Plan, hammered out in council and agreed to by both FS and Local Family is expected by most to be in use. Following Vision Council, it is expected that a Permit Council will take place on the same site to answer those questions. In Ocala, there have been changes in the Forest Rules such as a 14 day limit that was applied last year and the closed hunt camps and increased pay sites. For my part, I chose not to comment, only to note and observe.

However, I do predict that the Florida Family's Winter Annual Gathering will take place, in the Ocala National Forest, that it will be, by far, the largest Regional Rainbow Gathering in the US, and will be considered by its participants as such. I further predict comparitively warm weather, lots and lots of great family, great food, hugs galore and that everyone, in this year lesser leadership and focalization, will step up to the plate... present company excepted... and as Jim Dooley used to say about Florida in the winter, C'MON DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    With Love,

    Barry

PS A happy holiday season to all

Barry, Your A Miracle With Words. Tell Dirty Mama She Didn't Need Him Anyway. Blessed Rj And Cindys Little Girl. I Bet They Are Cold On The Bus.
Allycat, No One Is Pin-pointing A-campers. Road-dogs, Travellers, Peaceful Beings, A-campers, If It's Human It Will Manifest Bad. Though A Majority Of It Spawns From The Grounds Of A-camp.

Do I Agree With Such Decision Making And Seemingly Lack Of Love? Not In Particular. But Everyone Will Manage Just Fine.

It will work out it aways does. i bet rj knows how to keep cindy warm.dirty momma is a strong woman, and barry is a politicain, he should be good with words. maybe it is time for family to step up and they will. when there is someone there to do everything, it doesnt give others a chance to show what they have. ocala was before them and it will be without them. people make the gathering not individuals, there are others who will be there who are there every year starting with seed camp that help out without taking any credit lets not forget them, i can think of a few. so since a handful of so called high hollies, tho i have never heard them refer to themselvse as that, are not going to be there, lets not give up hope. i might be with or without my family. i personaly am going to have the best time i can ,i always do. so lets not ass-u-me because you know what happens when you do.

I'll be there and am looking forward to it. I spent most of my time at South Gate last year and will Gladly have my presence at Front Gate and don't worry I'm a PeaceMaker and will do my Best to give you All a Friendly "Welcome Home".
I'll be heading down there Jan. 15 to get out of wintery Syracuse N.Y.and stop in at Farles Prairie to see what's going on and will see how I can help create our Ocala Gathering. So don't fret,as there will be an Ocala Gathering and let's make it the Best We Can. "Rainbow Blessings to All"

Please send my love to them, to her and to Green Gary and tell them that if there were to be a year that their presence in Ocala would be greatly appreciated, this is it.

If a contingent from Bliss were to be interested in participating in Ocala for 2008, I am sure that seed camp help in preparation for their arrival would be available.

In past years Bliss has been a major kitchen and in others a Hydration Station. Those roles would certainly be welcomed, however, I for one miss Spagetti Dinners one night during the gathering and the physical presence of such a wise and wonderful family.

I have also heard that there are mobility issues, please pass on that those can and would be delt with as well. Please let I/we know what can be done and I/we will make it happen

If I can do anything personally or as a member of an extended family to bring our Ohio Family down south for a couple of weeks (or less) of warm sunshine, count me in...

    With Love,

    Barry

you know what makes ocala schwag? people focusing on all the negitive shit and not just pitchin in and gettin shit done. A camp is family, deal with it. you dont like it, dont hang out there. they have a job and they do it if we let them. haveing 2 gates where people can get beer past them causes drinking in the woods. there's always gonna be drainbows that dont do shit but get fucked up, but bitchin about it doesnt fix it. if everyone expected to go into the woods and meet some awsome folks and live like family it would happen. there's so much shit talked on ocala that if you beleive all of it you will have a shitty time. there's always good family to get there early and set up shit, and stick around for clean up, even if it's not the same people that do it every year.
i love all of you and i'm gonna have a great time in the woods with all my kids.

What a ridiculous assertation! The entire power of the United States Government could not enforce Prohibition. How can anyone expect an Insecurity Force of Drunken Thugs (How I miss A-Camp! "You don't know what you got till it's gone.") to do what The Untouchables could not?
