Ok, so we all make observations about people. We see the way they behave, and we think, they're expressing this need, they're acting like this to get recognition without asking for it, they want to be reassured that they're not fat/ugly/boring, they fancy this guy/girl and want to talk about them without admitting it.

I met up with a bunch of old school friends recently, a small, previously tight nit group who know each other well even now. So it's easier for me to make this observations, and I know them well enough to be able to tell when they're making observations quite easily.

What I noticed was this. People make observations like the above a lot. They give the slightest hint that they've noticed this hidden need etc., and then they pretend that they're totally ignorant. Their behaviour even suggests they think the opposite, sometimes.

I realised that I occasionally do this myself, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this in others or done this themselves? I have a feeling that this is something that happens constantly.

Yeah, but, so, but no, yeah, this constant undercurrent going on where people act the opposite to what their observations tell them just so that they can pretend to be ignorant, you know?
