has anyone tried figuring out how many combinations your number plates can have? i live in australia, brisbane first 3 are number and last 3 are letters (123-ABC).. the numbers you can get 999 different combinatiosn but my head started to hurt with the alphabet combinations LOL
why? ok so decimal numbers are base 10. letters are base 26. well ok, so i'm not up to doing the math either. you just have to convert zzz in base 26 back into base 10. i think there's a function on some calculators that will do that for you. maybe there's someplace on the net with a script that does base conversions. zzz sounds like more fun though. that and dreaming. =^^= .../\...
my math might be off, but 26*26*26 = 17576 combinations for letters, then multiply that by the number of number combinations, which using the same logic as before is 10*10*10 = 1000, (you forget 000 is also a possible, if unlikely, combination) so total possible combinations for brissy's plate parameters = 17,576,000 but I'm sure these maths are off. don't know where, but there's something I haven't taken into consideration.
If zeros a number, then it would be 10x10x10. A thousand combinations. And for the alphabet it would be 26x26x26. 17,576 (I used a calculator) so 17,576,000. Assuming there aren't other combinations used. like 12Z-57N
boo yah! and my internet is slowed down to a crawl today. there is nothing to do at work, and the internet is ultra slow. how am I expected to be a happy little drone if I can't even access non-work-related websites? also, there was never a shred of self-doubt when doing my maths. that was all a cunning attempt at humility, but in reality, I know I'm top shit when it comes to numbers.
