not dread related but I need advice now

My puppy Gucci had fallen about a week ago and has since went between limping and putting a small amount of pressure on her leg. I've felt up and down her leg and she seems to have a hard lump on her stifle i think thats it its the joint below her hip. She still wants to run and play she just doesn't use her leg. I want to take her to the vet but since I'm not a millionaire and can't pay the whole bill at once they said they would keep my dog till I came up with enough money if I take her to them. I don't believe this is fair.

I need to know if you were in my position would you keep her and hope she got better or give her up to the no kill shelter?

I love her to death shes my baby but idk what to do I've cried for days over what to do I feel fucking horrible that I can't take her to the vet. It makes me feel like a piece of shit. she deserves way better most likely but she absolutely loves being with me, my boyfriend, and my older dog.

What's up with just leaving her at the vet until you have the money?
It's where she really needs to go, you can't just ignore it. Gotta do what's best for her.

ask around at other vets and im sure most are willing to bill you for the ballance

 

I've called every vet in my area and everyone says I have to have the money up front or they keep her

I guess I just have to break down and take her to the hospital in anderson I have $76 which won't even cover the doctor just seeing her and doing nothing for her

 

Have you talked to anyone that you know about having them lend you the money? I understand where you are coming from.

 

they keep the pets to keep from losing money because then they put her up for adoption and get someone else to pay the bill

 

my family is dead broke almost everyone has lost their jobs i don't care if anyone believe me or not but I really have no money that I can barrow

 

You don't have to put this in the dread section. There are like 800 more other sections on the forum, so you can probably find a better location that the dreads section.

I think she'll be ok if you just leave her be. She knows enough to keep off the bad knee, so until you see there may be some sort of infection starting to form, I don't think there's a ton to worry about. Leave it to nature to take care of her, I think she'll be ok.

 

you'll probably want to find out if not seeking treatment is a criminal offence before you do nothing. I don't know about you but we have neighbours who will try and nail you for anything.

 

the reason I posted here is because a lot of you know me in a way and I didn't want to post somewhere and then have tons of people yelling at me telling me that I'm a horrible person and that I should die and shit I know how people get over animals getting hurt and I don't want that stress right now I feel bad enough as it is

 

That is horrible...just horrible! There has to be someone in your state that can help you. Have you called the SPCA, wont they help folks who have great intentions but short on cash. Sorry I watch the animal planet too much. Call your local tv station maybe they can help get a fund raiser going for you and your puppy. You would be suprised at who would help out just for a little free air time. Hope it all goes well!!!!

 

yeah, are there no animal charities who could either fund treatment, or part-fund it?

while im all for not letting pup suffer, it might be one of those things that clears up by itself, but i understand your worry

 

it doesn't seem to bother her at all that her leg is hurt she is still trying to run around with my older dog she is up running at full speed she has perfect balance she just has a hurt leg idk at first I thought it was a bruised/pulled muscle or a sprain/strain but idk any more im working on looking for help

I work for a vet (and I've worked for a lot of vets). A lot are scumbags, in my experience.

It sounds like a torn/overextended cruciate ligament. It's very common in puppies, as they bounce around so much. Sometimes it requires surgery, but sometimes "bed rest" clears it up. Do you have a crate? I know it sounds cruel, but boxing her in might solve the problem. Get her to relax. If it doesn't clear up after a week or so, then keep trying to find a vet that will help you.

You can give her baby aspirin for pain, if it seems like she's in any.

I wish you lived down here. We have a low cost clinic that charges on a sliding scale.

she fell by trying to jump off the back of the couch after my boyfriend startled her she fell against a table

 

or atleast thats what I was told I was at school when all of it happened

 

here i used to go to a homeopathic vet whod even barter for services when i used to make jewlery hed trade jewlery for vet services (or homeopathics for me..he was a vet but wasnt unwilling to treat humans too..i know that sounds bad..lol but homeopathics are harmless no matter what so it was ok)
i have freinds who are vets who travel arounbd volunteering theyre services free of charge
and u could probly fine a respectable rescue place willing to take a look at her since theyree non proffit anyways

but annie knows what shes talking about and a fwew weeks rest will probly be all she needs
