Apology accepted Now where were we? Oh yeah.... I'm sorry, none of that makes any sense to me. Could you possibly explain what you mean? That's a matter of perspective. I suspect that what we really have is the illusion of liberty. I doubt it will alter it dramatically, but it will certainly remove one tool from the potentially abusive hands of government. Are you serious? Fundamental liberties are already being eroded and I don't see much happening to stop it. Well firstly, I didn't make any moral statement with the regard to such controls... I simply pointed out that the nature of governments is to seek to control people. You're picking an argument out of thin air. These things are only limited by technology. If you can process data fast enough, many things become possible. The problem with this argument is that you could give the police the power to execute people for petty crimes, and you could then say "but hey, forget the threat to our liberty, crime has gone down!". Just because something has a potentially positive benefit that does not represent sufficient justification for the erosion of liberties. If our current economic reality was to persist, I'd be inclined to agree with you. In a world with diminishing resources, I'm not so sure. Either way, I don't think out liberty is something that should be gambled with. "IMHO" is not sufficient argument for legislating away freedoms. My sentiments exactly
I don't think that biometric ID cards are such a bad idea. They will at least help people to prove who they are thus making it easier to claim social security and to open a bank account. I agree they must be thoroughly researched first though so that they are impossible to copy or forge or that would defeat their purpose. They would also help to combat things like credit card fraud which costs billions.
hahahahaha well i pretty much covered what i wanted to say, and did not want too get into too much more as we both know were we stand pretty much.. Quit why we are still being pleasant Times do change, we would have to have taken tight control from day one [whenever that was] of Democracy within this country. If every 'infringement' as some people may have seen was not implemented, who is to know we would be any better/worse off. I have never read a historical precident for such a scheme other the 'Natzi germany' and thats a bit conveniant don't you think ? in other words: If the fringe of thinking like you and a few others like yourself [apposing such measures] had there way with every action [from the start of democracy] that supposedly 'infringed on civil liberties' who is too know if we would be any better or worse off [in the present day] . Highlight a example that does not involve 'natzi germany'..because that a bit unfair.
I have just noticed what you are having 'issues' with .. i was going to start a thread about it actually.. don't think i will bother now. Neither will i add any of my opinions on said matter.
Ummm... best be careful. I think we're off-topic! I'm afraid I can't continue this discussion in this thread!

yup...the-cost-is-financial-and-the-cost-of-our-freedom... it's-some-fucking-depressing-irony-that-people-have-fought-for-so-long-to-get-the-freedoms-we-now-have-....yet-are-so-willing-to-hand-them-all-back-over-a-matter-of-years-under-the-guise-of-security
