I want my nipples done like WHOA. But I'm really nervous....my breasts are SO sensitive. Does anybody have any experience with nipple piercings? I mean, I'm sure it will always hurt... but am I overreacting? I've heard some girls say it wasn't bad at all, and others say it felt like their chest was caving in. Also, if you know about any sort of complications I should be warned of, or anything.... cleaning tips, etc. I want to get them done, but not until I'm fully prepared. I've had easy things pierced so far, my nose, my belly, and ears... so this is a bit of a different story. Much appreciated, thank you
after a girl in st john's newfoundland died from toxic shock due to her nipples being pierced last week i wouldn't recommend it to anyone
i just got both of my nipples pierced last night.. and i too had heard different stories from different people on the pain factor.. and it just all depends on your personal pain threshold.. to me it so far has felt just like getting my ears pierced.. there was a sharp burning pain for about .5 seconds and that was it.. and of course since they're only just over 24 hours old, they're a little tender, but it's completely bearable.. but like i said, what it will feel like all depends on your tolerance for pain.. also my nipples were not extremely sensitive before anyways - part of the reason i really wanted this done in the first place, to increase sensitivity.. if you go through with it, definitely do the sea salt soaks - it helps.. as for cleaning, my piercer told me the best way to do it is to wet a q-tip and put some clear, unscented anti-bacterial soap on it and clean the piercing and the jewelry with that.. also it's a good idea to buy a sports bra to wear to bed or just around all the time.. so far i've worn a sports bra and a regular bra, and the sports bra is better at minimizing bouncing, jiggling and such.. hope that helps
the death was blamed on the piercings without any form of proof or justification.. and any form of problem should of been detected and stopped well before it came to death. i also believe it was a staphylococcus infection (not that i know what this is exactly, just going from sources) not a case of toxic shock syndrome. also a few other things, such as she was pierced unprofessionally by a friend in very substandard conditions.. heres BMEs press release on the subject: http://www.bmezine.com/news/pubring/20060313.html anyways.. back to the topic.. painwise.. you just have to remember with any piercing it will only be very very shortlived. is half a second of pain really too much for you to get a piercing you want? i havent had mine done yet, although theyre next on my list, although ive been told by a few piercers here that theyd class nipples as a 5-6 out of 10 generally. ive heard many bad stories about the pain but a few good too.. and also its aparently more painful for guys. *waits for king novacaine to give far better advice* edit: just read another source saying toxic shock syndrome. whatever the case, its a very extreme example, and the girl should never have let the complications get as bad as they did. the chances of anything like this happening are so stupidly low its not funny.. to recommend not to get a piercing because of this is to pretty much recommend not to do anything, ever.
haha, no need for me to interject, you gave very good info. just to add a bit to your comments about the death case.. (if infact she did die from this piercing). while there is no way of getting an exact number for how many people died from infected piercings, this is the second i've ever heard about. now, i dont know the statistic on how many piercings there are in the world. but its in the millions. if two out of a few million result in death, think about those odds. you have a better chance of getting struck by lightening while giving birth to quintuplets, right after you wont the lottery.
I am not stupid, so if I have a feeling it's not healing properly or is infected, I'll be sure to take the precautions I need to. I have had piercings infect before....nothing serious, go to the doctor and follow instructions. Some people are just DUMB....and people who lack that MUCH SENSE....shouldn't get piercings in the first place. I am really not worried about that. Mainly my question was, the pain factor, and any good healing tips.
i had my nipples done and to be honest only 1 of them hurt it was the right one, then on the left one didnt even feel it at all, obviously I felt it but you know what i mean. Weird thing is the one that didnt hurt getting done got extremely infected and was so sensitive to the touch it almost hurt for the next 3 years I had them in. The one that hurt while getting it done healed very fast and never was a bother. I had to take them out because I started getting things caught on them and forgot to put them back in so now they are closed and my nipples have holes in theme...You should get them donebut there are side effects so watch out.
And i would recomend to only have one done at a time. The body can heal one much faster than two wounds at a time...
many professional piercers will recommend against getting more than 3 piercings at once. on the other side, 2 piercings at once will most likely heal quicker than 2 piercings after one another. im getting both nipples pierced at 12gauge soon, vertically, then both pierced horizontally when theyre healed. if youre a slow healer or the piercing doesnt go so well you could find your nipple taking 9months or longer to heal. or many people report nipples never really fully healing.. can you really wait long enough for the second
at my shop it's cheaper to get both done at the same time, and it actually does heal faster if they are in the same area because your body is then trying to heal a larger area instead of a smaller one that it spends less time on. and i've seen someone get 27 surface piercings at once before. he spelled MOM in his chest.
hmmmmm ok *takes everything in* thanks everyone.....I'm really glad I asked before I went ahead and did it, this is very helpful
I dont know anything about getting your nipples pierced but i gotta say i think you would look really HOt with your nipples pierced!!!!
agreed hehe and yeah, many piercers will discount for multiple piercings as setting up for 2 piercings is pretty much the same as one, if theyre in the same area then cleaning is just as easy for 2 as 1 etc. i think im looking at saving $10nz by getting both mine done at the same time.. its not much but its something! another top store in nz that i went to late last year had a flatrate discount for multiple piercings, something like -$15 for 2 piercings, -$35 for 3. my current piercer doesnt have anything like that but has prices set up for things like both nipples. (and just gives random discount on multiple piercings)
ok got mine done today.. all went very well, pain was less than expected. just a very good experience as i expected with my piercer and i got an additional discount as ive been getting closer to the shop in there nearly every day lol
I've never had mine done. I used to want them, then I've seen some women with them and they look horrible. I'll let the men stick to them. But, my friends mom had hers done. She used hot salt water to clean them and bacitracin on a q-tip that she applied to the piercing and moved the jewelry around to get the ointment inside the wound. She slept with halved tennisballs over her nipples to keep them from hurting if she rolled over in her sleep. And, she used a somewhat padded bra under a tight fitting sports bra during the day so they wouldn't move around. When she was at home she sat around topless to let them breathe.
I have mine done. my right nippl.e i dont think i have the guts to get the second done cos it HURT for me, then i had no feeling in my nipple for a week or so and now it goes from being completely unsensitive to EXTREEMELY sensitive, its quite nice but there is a chance of loosing sensitivity. I had hardly any sensitivity in my nipple before hte piercing so i wasnt too worried. As for getting it done when you are pregnant (if i read that correctly) i wouldnt advise it. Wait untill after you have given birth and stopped breastfeeding (presuming that you will breastfeed) If you do breastfeed with a freshly pierced niple... well i dont think ti would be very nice really
