So all those little hair around the nipples....I've got a few that are dark, and I really don't want them. So I've been plucking them with tweezers. However, I get the idea that I shouldn't be doing this because the hairs keeping becoming ingrown, which is no fun....So I end up having to sort of "dig" out the hairs before it gets too bad (that sounds a little worse than I mean it). This, of course, does not make my boobs look very pretty. So my question is: how can I get rid of these hairs without having to worry about ingrown hairs? If I can't get around ingrown hairs, how do I fix them withoutscratching myself and maybe making scars? Is there any solution to my problem?
if they get ingrown, you aren't plucking right. You gotta get the root, too, not just break the hair off at the shaft. Do it like you are plucking your eyebrows, pull the skin tight. works best after a hot shower. They make those electrolysis type tweezers that shocks the root of the hair when you tweeze, have heard they work good, but have not used them myself. My breast hairs went away when I quit taking birth control pills, then came back after having kids. it must be a hormonal thing. I know women with PCOS tend to be hairier than most. I do not have pcos, just have hairy genes I suppose.
Exactly what I was going to say. I have PCOS, but my hairs don't seem as bad lately as they used to be. Like mamaboogie said, as long as you get the hair from the root you shouldn't have any prob with ingrown hairs - I usually keep a pair of tweezers in the shower, because it's there that I notice such things (and also where I do self breast-exams), and the heat does seem to help.
There is nothing wrong with a razor. Just keep away from the actual nipple, and stay on the areola. African American womyn, and those with darker skin tend to get more ingrown hairs, Plucking hurts too damn much. Since I went into perimanopause, the few I had dissapeared, so I agre it must be a hormonal thing.
and also there is nothing wrong with a few nipple hairs.. if it wasn't for my shallow-ish-bf I wouldn't even bother removing them.. but oh well the poor guy has to deal with my pithair and leghair and downunderhair as well so haha, oh well
hm..i usedta pluck mine then someone asked if plucking on ya nipples was a good idea? re:cancer and stuff?so i started cuttin mine...but if plucking is ok ill go back to that! more effective. anyone?
I don't think plucking nipple hairs is a cancer risk. Just hurts, and causes ingrown hairs. I think shaving, if you need to, is probably best. The newer battery operated, "personal razors" (they look like a mascara tube) are good for this, too. Although, electric shaving isn't as close as a razor. It causes less ingrown hairs. I use one of these electric tiny razors for my eyebrows, now. I never got over the eye watering pain of plucking.
oki thats cool cheers. just while we're on the subject of nipples...are they supposed to have kinda bumps around them, little ones, or be smooth...im presuming im normal but while we're on the subject i thought id ask??
the bumps are called Montgomery Tubercules/Glands and are perfectly normal, even when/if they look like little whiteheads. They secrete natural oils to keep your nipples from getting chapped and cracked, and to keep them nice and soft when you are nursing a baby.
I get a few dark hairs here and there. I pluck them and swipe a little aftershave on them to prevent them from becoming ingrown or infected. I haven't had any problems yet.
Hon, don't use the aftershave while you are pregnant, or while you are nursing. It can cause problems with the Montgomery Glands working properly, and you can dry out and get sore. Maybe get some Lansinoh (a brand name nipple ointment, and better than other lanolin based ointmnets) and use that.
