Even though I'm only 13 years old, I subside to only music from the sixties, annd seventies. I don't like much, okay any of the stuff out there. I am curious what your opinion is on newer music.

There is good new music out there... it's just hard to find... because the shit they play on the radio and put on the television is crap... Theres much more music out there than you'd imagine.

I think i agree with mui. Good new music is there, its just harder to find coz of all pop punk/emo stuff thats going through a rather irritating phase of popularity at the moment. However there are some really good bands out at the moment :

    Kasabian
    Franz Ferdinand
    Muse
    etc...

I personally listen to 70's rock - ie, the doors, the who, jefferson airplane, hendrix etc, aswell as lots of goth metal and im happy with that balance. I have a combination of old and new, and i like it.

    peace and love

well, if we're talkin mainstream music, as in radio/mtv,etc, then i agree. the majority is pretty poo. there are tons of great bands/singers out there right now though, you just have to dig a little deeper to find em these days!
i guess it depends what kind of music you're into ... for example, if you're lookin for a modern day Doors type band, then i guess it'll be a bit of a mission to find!

but dont lose hope... and if all else fails then make your own music...

i'm 13 too and i grew up listenin to older music from the 60s and 70s and i love it. i'd much rather listen to old stuff than the newer stuff today. some of the new stuff is okay, but i haven't really searched around to try and find anything, i'll just stick to old stuff.
    peace. jah bless.

You won't find a treasure without digging. It might be well-hidden by what I think is crappy music, like the hiphop, r&b and trance they play on MTV nowadays (though I'm not from the states and regional factors do play a role in mainstream musical trends), but there certainly are modern bands and artist that do what they want. I'm very much a fan of Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos, to name a few.

Now, my favourite music is something that (to me at least) only got interesting in the nineties, so we'll call that new music. But you won't find any of it on tv either, because if you follow the road of extremities in music, you'll find my tastes a few steps beyond the border of this-can't-be-healthy-anymore, and indeed very MTV-unsuitable.

But yeah, though I like music from the sixties and seventies, I guess I prefer new music.

If you judge music on when it was released that is just stupid. No matter what trend is happening, and there has always been trends, there is also always good music.

plenty of great music out there right now...

garaj mahal, steve kimock, yonder mountain, moe., charlie hunter, keller williams, bela fleck, victor wooten, warren haynes, ani difranco, michael franti, karl denson and so many more...

but you're right, the music that we are spoon fed is crap. dig deeper and don't always accept what you are given. this goes for everything, not just music.

Even the rubbish from the 60s and 70s had an abundance of magic that just is not the case these days. I would take Bobby Vee and Cliff Richard over anyone today.

The thing that is discouraging is the fact that even the Spice Girls sound fresh and advanced compared with todays crap. There is hardly anybody who sings with feeling anymore. If the White Stripes and Maroon 5 are supposed to be the new and vibrant music of today then it is only going to get worse.

there are pleny of great bands out there right now, I'd say music is in a mini resurgence on an underground level.....being 13 and not going to clubs/smaller shows makes it harder to be exposed

there has been great stuff during all eras...and not everything in the 60's and 70's was remotely good.

the golden age was from 65 to 73(as i said and the most part of rock and pop critics said)
every artist was doin' 1 album per year ...the music was much more adventurous than now...The Bands were touring much more than now and were very badly paid
Now the band don't take so much risk they became comfortable...they often sound the same from LP 1 to LP 5 and they made those 5 LP in 10 or 12 years time...
70 to 80 % of the music i love and ear is from the 60's and 70's it's a key time in the last century for different reasons (i can't talk bout all the reasons)...Political(so many coutries became independent)...The TV was a fresh invention (and the colour TV follow)...The battle between communism and captalism. The battle for the rights of women. All the arts were evolvin' faster than ever and with much inspirations. In this time they discover different drugs so it was a dangerous time with no information 'bout drugs . So they were enjoyin' the experimentation...

I think when the cocaine became popular in the mid 70's it kill a lot of the adventure in music...and it make grow your ego (nearly bigger than Crosby ego) and you're the new zorro :)

Since the early nineties(thanx to Nirvana, Guns n roses U2 and REM...etc...for this...) rock was back after a previous decade too often made of superficial music but actually there is some very interesting bands:

    Kingbury Manx(US)
    The Soundrack of our lives(SWE)
Kasabian (the perfect band for a psychedelic revolution) (UK)
    Coldplay(UK)
    Doves(UK)
    The Vines(AUS)
    The Hives(SWE)
    The Music(UK)
    The 22-20's(IRE)
or the not so yound but not old The Manic Street Preachers (UK) etc...

Don't forget Blind Melon and Oasis... Blind Melon's 2nd album was a completely different mood from their debut, Nirvana and G&R did not do this... Oasis had arguably the two best albums of the 90's, also.

If anyone here likes Led Zeppelin and does not yet listen to BM, check them out.... I like Soup the best.

I haven't been exposed to much new music, only through my friends. I haven't had a TV or radio until this year. My parents didn't want me being exposed to the media until I was ready. Now that I am, I could care less to listen to the new music. I've grown up only knowing music from the 60's and 70's. I don't know much else.

No you don't understood me very well... Nirvana , Guns n' Roses , REM and U2 ...are just the bands that made the music industry evolve and be re-interested in Rock 'n Roll.
Those bands are not my favourite bands of the decade...this is just that those good bands with millions album sales only can change the music industry not the great underground band who sell 1000 LP...d'ya know what i mean?

I was a fan of oasis from long time now...but they don't evolve enough between album and i became a little bored(just a little) but i can't wait more time for their new album release the 16 May 2005...this year will be a great year of rock n' roll... i will post one of those days a list with the prediction of the release date of a lot of good bands and artist for 2005...

Oh, I read you wrong. :p

Oasis has been quite.... shitty :p... with their last two albums.... Heathen Chemisty was alright, but nothing compared to their first 2... SotSoG was just plain crap.

Their new album's plans have changed twice now... at first, Noel said they were going to release a 12 track pure hard rock album, after that he said it'll be a 10 track psycehedelia album... who knows what to expect. :p

Great year for rock 'n' roll? I don't think so... with the exception of Oasis, I can't think of any other mainstream rock bands that kickass.
