Hi all, When I was young in the 60's I did not call myself a hippie. No one did I knew. We called ourselves heads or freaks. (Ugh) Hippie was a word used by the media, I thought. I sometimes reminisce about the old days (1966-74) and I wish I had a time machine just to visit. I am a very different person than I was then, yet some things have stayed the same with me. I dress much better but I still like the same music...and girls. M
I'm 18, man, and you're not alone. And I still wished the same when I was younger. Many people my age and younger wish they could live in that era. I can't tell you how many comments I see of kids commenting on songs on YouTube wishing the same thing. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem one can really find those people in real life. I don't think "hippie" was a word invented by the media, though. Maybe a word the media latched onto, but I've still heard artists of that era using that word in a positive way. The one that comes to the top of my head is when Hendrix mentions hippies in the song "If 6 Was 9". I think the clothes back then were cool, though, and of course the music. The whole psychedelic style. And of course, abundant weed and acid and people sharing without care about money and truly helping each other. Too many people are influenced by the media these days and peers instead of truly being themselves. Where are you at?
I am from the Chicago area now. What I miss the most about the late 60's and 70's is the cheap and easy to get weed...and the girls. I just wish that I could have found one to keep for my own, instead of looking only for fun and a cute date. Now I cannot get either one and I cannot afford the weed, probably anyway. There's my honest moment.)) What about those of you from back then??
