That's what it is called! I just couldn't think of the name...I've been calling it 'the snot pot'. My brother bought one a few weeks ago and I have been needing to try it out.

I call mine that, too. Not a TM Neti, but made by a loal potter.
I love it. make sure you get the right saline mix, though.

too much salt hurts. Too little hurts. start weak and adjust.

My guess is so it isn't absorbed. Blood density, and iodine probably is not the greatest thing to have in your nose.
    OR it's a purity trip.
I buy noniodized as a matter of course, assuming that we'll get all the iodized/iodine we need at restarants.

I was at my local co-op and my kids and I saw one of those and I jokingly threatened to buy one.

I discourage them from sticking stuff up their noses.

    Yuck.

yhea, i just read about this today acutally. for anyone wondering, its like a douche for your nose, basically. u use salt water to flush out your nasal passages. its good for you.

im pretty sure you can just use a regular porcelain teapot tho, right?

is non-iodized salt more expensive? do they sell it at regualr grocery stores?
what are the proportions for salinity?

I recently tried neti for the first time and I can't get enough of it! Its so cool that our sinuses are actually routed like that to allow for irrigation. Before bed a couple weeks ago the right side of my throat started to feel sore. Whenever this happens I'll wake up the next morning with an awful sore throat. I used to take a bunch of vitamin C before bed when I felt that first twinge of soreness, and that worked, but now it keeps me up at night and a good night's sleep is crucial to stave off sickness, so I can't have that. Anyway, I did the neti right before going to bed and I woke up with no sore throat. Awesome.
And yesterday, I did some heavy duty garage-barn-shed cleaning which left my sinuses stuffed and gross. Did the neti before bed and I feel great. It slightly stung (well not really a sting but more like that feeling you get when you need to sneeze) and took much longer than normal to do, which makes sense because the liquid had more stuff to get through. All so interesting. I was slightly nervous about trying it but it really does feel wonderful; just definitely different.

a small pot, perhaps. The spout has to fit your nostril...and you'd not want to use it for tea ever again.
I don't think plain salt cost more. Sea salt can, but I get it anyway.
the right proportion: I guess my pot holds 4 ounces of water. I put three pinches of salt in to start and adjust if I feel a burn.
I like warm water, personally. A friend of mine prefers cool.

yeah non iodized and iodized salt seem to cost the same.

lace... im glad you liked it. :) ive been using it every day and it seems to really benefit me. in asia cultures they would use the neti before a yoga session as one of their neccasary preparations.....

I've used a neti for a number of years, it works wonders when you think you are coming down with a cold or if one sneaks up on you and your nose gets all stuffed up. Here is the recipe for isotonic (the same saltiness as body fluids) solution that I always use:
    1/4 tsp. sea salt
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1 cup water
Mix well and pour into your neti. No burn with this recipe.

hm the only real thing different about that and what i use is the baking soda and the sea salt, compared to reg. salt. maybe ill try that.

I tried the recipe with the addition of baking soda earlier this week when I was a bit stuffed up and after just visiting with my sick boyfriend. It stung a little bit more but the next morning I felt great and hadn't contracted the bug.
