I've been growing two Indica plants for about 5 weeks and I noticed about a week ago that the leaves are getting dry, brown, and curling around the edges. The soil is still damp so it's not because they need watered. I tried cutting back the water to see if the were over watered and that's not it. I don't have any pests. They are being fed with a fertilizer higher in Nitrogen. They are under 2 metal halide lights, one soft white, and one flourescent light surrounded by white walls. I just introduced the soft white light about 2 days ago because I thought maybe they weren't getting enough light through the canopy. I tried leaf feeding them and have had no results. Some input would be much appreciated.
Could be fertiliser burn or heat stress. How far is your halide lamp from the plants. Have you got a fan blowing over the plants. Put your hand over the top of your plants if its comfatable for your hand the plant will be ok. If its not heat stress more than likely will be over fertilisation. Try just giving them water and if you spray them just use water as well. Nearly all problems are caused by an excess of something. The most common of which is overfertilisation. Most commercial soil does not need any added fertiliser personally I would not add any more fertiliser right untill the end of your grow. With the stuff you have added already there will be more than enough nutrients in your soil to carry you right through.
I always have a fan blowing on them. The lights are a good distance away...I always use the back of my hand to gauge the heat. The fertilizer is part of the soil. The new growth has very good color is just the older parts of the pant...almost looks like it's wilting. When I leaf feed I only ever use water. in this pic you can see how the leaf tips are curling. I'm gonna be getting rid of the bottom lights as I doubt they are really helping anything. The bulb in the front is just a soft white...which will be replace by a MH.
Theres nothing wrong with those plants leave them alone. Removing leaves will stress them out and slow down growth. Some soil such as Miracle grow has a lot of fertiliser already in it which can be a little strong for young plants. If you leave them alone chances are they will be just fine. Stop worring and don't make the big mistake of trying to correct things that arn't going to be a problem you will only make things worse.
The bottom or large fan leaves help in the overall growth of the plant the more leaves the greater growth potential a plant has. The plant can also take nutrients from older leaves when there is any problems. As a rule don't remove leaves untill they fall off.
