need some advice on buying a bong

i wanna buy a bong! i like the idea of cool smoke, expecially if i'm gonna be trying salvia divinorum (needs to be heated to very hot temperatures to take proper effect). salvia can't be vapourised so a bong is my best option.


how tall should it be?
acrylic or glass?
how much should i pay?
know any good shops/websites in the UK from which i could buy one?
what is a "shotgun hole"?



all help is appreciated.

p.s - i have always used joints so far so i am clueless about bongs.

ok, so buy a glass ice bong. i'll be using an extremely hot lighter (the ones that look like mini blowtorches for salvia divinorum).

how tall should it be?
does that mean that you put ice in instead of water?
what is a good price to pay?
do you need a mouth piece to suck through?

i'm a first time buyer:& , so i just wanna make sure i don't get bumped over the price!

 

first you can fill a bong with anything, water or ice,you dont need a ice bong for salvia a regular one will be fine, i would go with a one footer, glass should cost around 50$. a shotgun hole i have no idea what wtf that means you just combined two different terms into one. a bong is like a vase that has a bowl head coming out of the bottom,its realy as simple as that

exactly the reason i'm buying a bong . cool smoke = huge tokes and no coughing.

 

if i were you i'd either get a cheap glass bong or make one (like i did). The reason for that is that salvia can hit you very fast, therefore at higher doses its very easy for you to drop the bong...but yes and ice cooled water bong is the best choice

 

that why you have a trip sitter when you do high doses so you dont ran out of the room or drop your glass and break it

 

i'd definately have a sitter to stop that happening. i've got plenty of money (there's a first ) so i would invest in a good quality one. after all there's no point on wasting money getting the cheapest one if it doesn't work.

id recommend never doing salvia with a sitter. if you can't handle it alone, don't do it. salvia is a private thing, imo. a sitter just freaks me out, plus you can't exactly lay down in perfect dark and silence and actually achieve effects worth writing home about when theres a sitter there. plus you have enough to worry about without wondering what the hell that alien looking person is doing on your couch. you also DONT need a bong OR a torch lighter. my first times using salvia were all with a very small spoon type glass peice and a normal cigarette lighter. btw, a hotter flame doesnt necessarily mean hotter smoke.

what size? what material? it's all up to you. seeing as your profile says you're sixteen, i'd go for the cheapest thing available in case your folks find it. that probably would be a cheap acryllic peice with a metal bowl. go for a sliding peice if you feel like spending the extra money...its definitely worth it. stale smoke is one of the most terrible things in the world to inhale, and can have you choking, gagging, even puking depending on how bad it tastes and feels to inhale it. especially if you're gonna smoke pot with it, too. a carb just doesn't allow you to clear a bong right. carbs are for bowls.

i see you're from england, so i don't know all your paraphernelia slang terms. i'd guess what you would call a shotgun hole would be the same thing as i would call a carb. i've also heard other people call them cali carbs, chokes, or thumbholes. the thing you cover up as your hitting then uncover to clear the pipe. but for a bong, you want the bowl itself to be seperate from the stem, and it should be slightly smaller in diameter than the stem sticking out of the bong, and should fit in there quite snug, but loose enough to easily remove WHILE hitting it. this is what, at least around here, we call a slide, slide peice, or slide carb. for obvious reasons

never heard of a "shotgun hole," but i've heard of shotguns (either turning a blunt/joint around, sticking the lit end in your mouth and blowing through it to shoot a large amount of smoke into another person's face...they cup their hands around there mouth and suck it all in, or else taking a hit and very quickly kissing another person but exhaling into their mouth as they inhale) and i've heard of people calling steamrollers shotguns or shotgun pipes. these are basically tubes open at both ends with the bowl in the middle. you use one end as a mouthpeice while covering the other end and using it like a carb, delivering hits easily as big as you'd get from a bong but without the noisy water, or else both ends can be used like a mouthpeice by two people at once. i suppose a "shotgun hole" might be a reference to the end of the steamroller closest to the bowl. basically a huge carb.

 

nesta ive used bowls for saliva and ive used bong and i have to say bongs are soooooo much better, a spoon worked but i realy didnt get much but with the bong WOW,id go with some thing that had a bubble at the bottom and then goes up to a mouth peace,has a bigger chamber

 

i've tried both, they both work, bong probably works a little bitter but theres no real need to go out and pay extra money for it, especially when you could be spending it on more important or useful things. if he hasn't ANY peices, he may as well get a bong. i'm sure a steamroller would work just as well as a bong, without being noisy and possibly getting him in trouble. if i were back in hs and had the money and ability to browse glass peices at my leisure and get whatever i wanted, i'd probably have a steamroller over a bong for that reason more than any other. hell, maybe i ought to go out and get one when i get some money! heh...that wont be for a little while though.

at any rate, there are some good online uk headshops, but sharing sources on here is against the rules. do a few search engine runs, and if you still can't find anything (it would be beyond me why you couldnt, most of the best online headshops are based in the UK or other parts of europe anyhow) then PM me and i'll send you some sites. but if i were you i'd do a search for mushroom growkits...some shops in the us sell "kits" for growing mushrooms, but not too many, as they'd get in some trouble. its more of a europe thing.

i agree, except i would recommend using a sitter the first 5 or 6 times you use it just so you can get a feel for the effects at various doses...once you can handle it on your own is when i believe a breakthrough can actually be acheived

 

i will definately use a sitter, i don't wanna do something stupid do i . the bong in the link, does it look like it will last? is 45 cm a bit excessive?

 

i'd say its a little big for your purposes, i would personally go with a CCG Bubbler
so something like this:

or something that i made myself, just for the reason that i use salvia as a tool for deep meditation, so in my opinion the smoking device should be something ceremonial, therefore a homemade peice or artistically made glass peice would be very suiting for that. thats just me though
