I was in the Air Force. Recruiters lie. Ask any sailor, they'll tell you that recruiters lie. Do not believe what your recruiter says. If it ain't in writting, it doesn't exist. (Keep your copies.) If your recruiter offers to help you bend the rules...run like hell. He's not going to fool the Navy as much as he'll decieve you. Recruiters lie.
my sister joined and became a sea bee. she's very happy. it was always her hope to build and stuff like that. she's very happy. but she got the runaround LOADS of time, and it's only because my dad is a very well connected officer that she got what she wanted and all the benefits she's supposed to get. unless you have someone in there getting your back, it's goin to suck ass.
My cousin was in the navy for a couple years. He said he hated it. Being stuck on a boat for months at a time was miserable. He said that he probably would have had a better time in the Coast Guard, you should look into that.
Had a WoW friend that was really close in game to and he was in the navy. He was always having to go "on call" which means out to sea to pretend to fight pirates for 2-3 months. He said it works for some people who need stability and a shedule in their life but he also told me that if you havent already joined, dont, because one you join, you are theirs for as long as they say and you become so attached to the lifestyle that it prohibits you from doing anything else, mostly because its molded that way to have that effect. He said if you havent done it, dont, you will regret it. Also he was like the 3rd in command on this ship he sailed on, so I would take hsi word for it.
dont join the navy, from someone who works on paris island he said it was the worst mistake of his life
Rasta, that was a horrible reply man. Paris island is .01% navy, Navy corpsmen, yea, the rest are all department of navy, MARINES. I am in the Navy currently serving on Active Duty. I like it, I have one of the better jobs in. As an Aerographers Mate, I am basically a navy weather man. Sometimes it sucks, and the food isnt great. But it is a roof over your head, and a pay check every first and 15th. (didnt feel like spelling that, but it seems I voided that typing by typing this now didnt i?) And a good chance to make something out of yourself. In the Navy, you can build yourself from scratch, you really can. You can come in from shit, and if you are good at what you do, and really try, you will be succesful. Be it for 20 years, or 4. It is what you make it.
And as far as recruiters go. I was lucky, I had a good one, he was at his 19 year mark, near retirement. He didnt need to push numbers, what could they do to him? As far as bending the rules, much of that has to do with the fact that the MAJORITY of the population, if they told the truth is DQ'd from military service. ANY drug use is a DQ offense. Requiring a waiver, which is easy to get. Any medications for ADHD or depression within the last year, bam your DQ'd. That one doesnt get waived. Alot of things like that, broken bones? DQ. Pee blood when you were 3? DQ. Piss your bed after age 13? DQ. Its crazy the stuff they DQ for, that require waivers.
And now for a superficial reply. Does anybody have pics in sailor uniforms that they wouldn't mind sharing? With the hat and all that good stuff? Y'all look really good in it.
