How did Native women, back in the day (way way back), deal with that time of the month? Or any women back in the day?
Everytime it comes around, I just want to squat somewhere foresty and just let the flow flow. That seems like the most comfortable option.
I think a lot of the older civilizations allowed women to get together and go off somewhere during their periods. They just chilled and had some female time to my understanding. Sounds good to me.
pieces of cloth, then they would wash it and reuse them. they were like little rags from disgarded clothes or little hand towels . but,....What Did Women Use for Sanitary Protection Before Commercial Pads and Tampons? nothing. in the 19th century American and European women probably wore nothing to contain menstrual bleeding. In fact, not only did women wear nothing to absorb menstrual blood, they also did not wear underwear.
I believe the native americans used braided pieces of hair to absorb the blood. This is a VERY interesting link that shows what women did before they had adhesive pads. http://www.mum.org/insideMUM1.htm
i was reading some book or something that actually made mention of the monthly rags and belts. i was STUNNED. i couldn't believe they mentioned it.
My grandmother says they made pads and washed and reused them. Bless her heart! She was so unimformed that she thought she was dying when she started her period and was afraid to tell anyone. I made it a point to keep my daughter informed so she wouldnt hear false stories and believe them.
my aunt was ashamed to tell her mom that she started, so she would take little towels and fasten them with saftey pins and hide them in her dresser.
