NASA and scientists from Pennsylvania State University studied possible first contact scenarios.

    Ironically, what they fear from aliens, sounds more like human created scenarios;
"humanity could be wiped out when a more advanced civilisation accidentally unleashes an unfriendly artificial intelligence, or performs a catastrophic physics experiment that renders a portion of the galaxy uninhabitable."

So basically NASA scientists fear that aliens might show up and exhibit the same colonization and war tactics that the US has used most notably in the Middle East...

Get ready for Project Bluebeam so our governments can "save" us from the horrible aliens.

Meh. Most animals on earth won't even touch us for food. I don't think this is a big worry.

Frankly, sounds like great movie fodder, but the only one that seems worrisome is accidental harm or massive galactic damage or alteration.

I think the point that Skip is making here is that the article that was published is a total farce. It is a weak attempt to plant a seed into the minds of the public so that when the "Powers That Be" start to move forward with the plan they have already orchestrated at our expense, the citizens will panic and think back on the article about aliens invading the earth, and think that's what is really happening. How fortuitous that they won't be able to pull it off, because America is finally waking up. That is evident just from the percentages this thread reveals: including myself, out of eight people, here are the results so far: (5) of us are hip to the government's lies and strategy, and are not buying into it; (2) of us are clueless to what's really going on in the world and are buying into it; and (1) of us is neutral. Yay! The wise shall prevail! Do you hear this, Big Brother?

The question though really, Is why the fuck bother

With comparisons of colonization stories of centuries past it was a matter of spreading out then attacking any group that got in the way, its not like anyone ever sought to wipe out an indigenous race before they tried to settle the land.

Same with space, when we finally get to spread out, it will be about getting stuff, resources, and setting up colonies on inhabitable planets.

Whether its us, or the little green men, why bother targeting another world if there are a 1000 Earth/Krypton like planets in between.

Then again, if you can master intergalactic travel, why do you need another earth like planet if by then you can pretty much make your own

Then again again, as for colonization stories of the past, here on earth, the natives are still there, in smaller numbers admittedly, but once the land was conquered its not like anyone really bothered to try wipe them all out

So in the end apathy will probably be our saviour, more likely will end up fucking ourselves over

I guess too many people started to see through the global warming scam, so they've come up with a new one. It's only a matter of time before George Soros, Al Gore and Goldman Sachs start pushing to sell government mandated "alien credits" to operate any device that broadcasts a signal.

I think we should certainly avoid sending any radio waves in the direction of Za'ha'dum anyway, just to be on the safe side.

Just to run with the Scissors for a moment,,,

Perhaps NASA is right, perhaps they knew since Roswell

Maybe whatever Aliens they're concerned about have already arrived with the intent of exterminating our race, but getting us to be the hand that pulls the trigger as a retaliation for our own scientists having detonated an Atomic device. The problem being that our Scientists at the time had no idea wether doing so might just not cause an uncontrollable chain reaction that may have wiped out the planet,,, maybe more. It was actually a serious concern amongst some of the top scientists involved from what I read, and yet they went ahead with it. And again in more recent years with the Super colliders there were similar concerns as if we may inadvertently cause some sort of galactic catastrophy, and again we proceeded...

Our species overall has shown itself to having a strange compulsion towards sticking a fork in the toaster to see if it's plugged in or not and so far we've been lucky.

Maybe these entities have shifted our attention towards more localized forms of self destruction, like altering the genomes of our worlds food supply as well as that of the microbes which the plants depend on for growth thereby ensuring the demise of our species within the next 50 years from starvation as Monsanto seems so intent on doing with their GMO bio-weapons that the FDA will be unleashing on a grand scale now that their ex VP has been made the Advisor to the Chief comissioner of the FDA?

If the "aliens" came, would we know them if we saw them face to face? For all we may know, they could look and talk and walk just like us. Maybe even similar accents. Hollyweird and the rest of the paranoia yahoos have this crazy idea that aliens will be grotesque or totally fugly and wanting to kill us for something. Failing to understand that until we see proof, we have no idea they aren't here.

Do a search on YouTube for that. There are other sites as well. The US government at one time had literally indexed over 57 different species here.

When the aliens come most likely they will just look like really hot chicks that either have red, green, and or blue skin and the only reason they will have travelled here is to have sex with me. So unless I'm married by then I personally can't wait

    Hey, here's a wild idea!

Maybe by turning our beloved Earth into a toxic wasteland we are saved from Alien invasion. Once their scanners read how polluted our seas and land and air are, they will run back home...

So we should be thanking the likes of BP, Halliburton, GE, TEPCO, etc. for saving us from the aliens!

That is of course, providing that the aliens aren't fond of human flesh for lunch...

    Oh, here's another idea!

Why not put an ad on Craigslist (universal edition) for an alien species to come and clean up our planet with their superior technology.

In payment for their services they may have their pick of any females on hipforums they choose to probe or mate with...

Come on girls, you know you want it!

I dunno Skip. The only reason I think that space alien was hot for Sigourney Weaver is because of the perfume.

Maybe they look like Leelah from Futurama? Well I think shes cute...

But I don't think that starwars project is totally dead yet, theres still people that want to put weaponry in space because as you know we still don't have enough, But pushing the fear thing over the last few years has been sucessful with our being in the middle east. Republicans tell us every day that Moslem Extremists are going to highjack the revolutions going on right now and of course turn everyone against us.

I guess it would really depend on how much they like the subtle flavors of Pesticides, Bovine Growth Hormones, preservatives and the other various toxins we pump our diets with these days.

Of course if they like "free range meats" it just means those of us in "developed nations" will have far less to worry about than those in less developed, agrarian based cultures who still pretty much do things the organic way,,, if there even is such a place anymore. :mickey:
