These were recurring dreams I had from about 8 or 9 years old until around 12. In most of these I was dreaming with my eyes open.

1 (The Desk) - I sit up in bed, dreaming, the room very dim, feeling like there's something wrong in the room. Out of the corner of my eye I catch movement, and when I turn my head I see that the far end of my desk is slowly moving away from the wall.

As it continues to swing around towards me I can see that it's splitting in half, and the half that's furthest away from me is moving faster than the closer half, and I sense that I'm in danger of being attacked somehow by my own desk. I lie back down, cover my head, waiting for something horrible to happen, and eventually go back to normal sleep.

2 (The Sock) - I sit up in bed, dreaming, and the entire bed slowly begins moving away from the wall it's up against... I know what's coming, as this one is recurrent, and I'm locked in an electrifying dread.

The bed stops a few inches away from the wall, and, with excruciating slowness, a plain white crew-sock begins to rise up from wherever is was lurking beneath the bed. This freezes me in an inexplicable terror. The sock looks like it would if it was laid out on a flat surface, with the 45 degree angle between the leg part and the foot section.

It rises until it's at eye-level, and pauses there, and I know that it knows I'm looking at it, staring at it helplessly. After a minute it starts dropping down again as the bed moves simultaneously back against the wall, and the threat is over.

3 ( The Hallway) - I sit up in bed, dreaming, and look down the hallway beyond my bedroom. The bathroom door is about 8' down the hall on the right, emitting faint light from it's night-light. The hallway continues on another 10' or so, and ends at a blank wall, with openings to the left and the right, den and kitchen respectively.

Everything I see (as in all these night terrors) looks like I'm seeing it underwater, a gentle rippling effect. That's when I become aware of the voices coming from the darkness back in the rooms off to the sides at the end of the hallway. They're softly chuckling, laughing, a thoroughly malignant sound, and it's men and women, and the threatening, conspiratorial quality of it sliding thickly from their throats locks me up in an extremis of full-on terror as I struggle to wake up - yeah, I'm actually aware at this point that I'm asleep, aware that whatever the hideous things are just beyond the hallway in the dark are focused on ME, they want ME.

And in that fear I somehow force myself to wake up, and the swimmy appearance of everything begins to clear from a point in the center of my field of vision, that clarity quickly spreading outward in a perfect circle towards it's periphery, and, hearing/sensing a faint 'pop', I'm suddenly fully awake. The voices are gone and I'm staring down the hallway, never having missed a beat from the sleep state into the waking state.

There are more, but those are some of the more memorable ones.

    Here's another recurring kid-dream I had.

I was standing outside on an overcast day, a fine drizzle steadily falling. I was on a deeply green swale of grass next to a stone wall that towered over my head and extended in a gradual curve, twisting down a slope and disappearing into the mist.

I turned to look the other way, and saw a small stone building next to the wall. It was round, with a diameter of about 12', rising to about 8' at it's eaves, it's stone roof steeply conical.

I couldn't discern a door, but there was a small, barred lancet window at about head-height. A Lancet window arches up to a sharp point, like you see in medieval churches. I had a bad feeling about that little building, but I nevertheless walked up to the window, and looked inside, an old, moldy smell drifting out to me, like a raft of rotting books in a cellar.

Occupying nearly the entire room was a very thick, round table supported by a central post. Just in from the outer perimeter of this table, rough iron spikes had been driven up through the wood from the bottom of the table, forming a circle with spikes spaced about 2' apart from one another.

Upon those spikes had been impaled the crudely severed heads of men and women, several of them wearing crowns, all of them facing toward the center of the table... their necks were shriveled and bloody, and all their eyes were open.

The table was turning, very slowly, in a counterclockwise direction, and as each head came around in turn to the opposite side of the room from where I stood watching in horror, I knew that it saw me, that they were all aware that I was there at the window, looking in.

I turned and ran, and spotted a doorway in the wall down the slope, and entering in, climbed a narrow stone stairway up to a shadowy landing which T-ed off to either side to two perpendicular hallways. Right in front of me, at the head of the stairs, a rectangular recess had been set into the wall, and in it was a metal plaque.

The words incised into this plaque said something of great import, and for a little while after this dream I knew what it said, but it soon faded on me, and I've no idea what it's message was now, only that it conveyed extremely important information of some sort.

    And that's it.
