My Response To A Post About A Restaurant Giving Free Meals To The Hungry.

This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen...

A sign reads: "ALL YOU CAN EAT IF YOU ARE HUNGRY AND HAVE NO MONEY, THESE MEALS HAVE BEEN PAID FOR IN ADVANCE GIVE A SERVER THE TICKET AND THEY WILL HAVE THE KITCHEN PREPARE YOUR MEAL."

My response, what we need is Private Charity + Government Assistance.

It's also worth pointing out I am talking about the reality of life in the United States when I say this.

This is my personal response, not meant t9 be political.

For 13 plus years I have volunteered to cook one weekend every month at a homelessshelter. The idea was to insure people had meals on the weekends while the full time paid cook had their weekend off.
I also am involved in working ( behind the scenes) a food pantry. As a team leader in unloading food deliveries and putting items in our " stock" room.
I am very involved in food recovery and distribution to various community meals locations.
To add to all of that I also work, ie: food prep, cooking, and then distribution of the meals.

So I am speaking from my viewpoint. Our grant for this year for the community meal was a shocking 300 dollars for the year. Serving 100 plus meals every dinner 300 dollars is not covering our costs. Our grant was drastically cut due to the DOGE " fraud team" cuts.
Also of note. There was grants for local farmers to supply fresh vegetables to the food banks. 4 to 6 tractor trailers encountered. Were stopped and forced to turn around. Because of our current government administration . Those trucks were forced to dump their loads at a landfill. Rather then finish the delivery.

Tell me how that made sense.
With the economy in a decline. With unemployment creeping up. With food prices increasing. Food pantries and community meals are seeing a bigger demand. And Federal funds are drying up. Something has to give.
With this current administration it is only going to get worst.
