You could build the same case to invade Mexico..I for the life of me can't believe there is even one sane person who seriously believes BUsh's lies or thinks they can sell his simple bullshit. It's incredible that someone can be that fuking stupid or think that we are.

    THE WASHINGTON TIMES
    CIA agents spread too thin
    By John B. Roberts II

WHY DIDN'T OUR PRESIDENT RECEIVE MORE DEFINITIVE INTELLIGENCE?

It is evident from the past year that the quality of American intelligence on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction fell short. There are reasons for this failure. THEY ALL HAPPENED BEFORE MR. BUSH TOOK OFFICE. THE 90S WERE A LOST DECADE FOR AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE. AFTER 1991, A VICIOUS COMBINATION OF TRENDS GUTTED THE CIA'S CAPACITY TO WORK AGAINST HARD TARGERS LIKE IRAQ.

Budget cuts closed dozens of CIA stations. James Pavitt, the CIA's cladestine chief, says the hiring of new case officers VIRTUALLY CEASED DURING BILL CLINTON;S PRESIDENCY. The Clintion administration backed congressional human rights restrictions requiring CIA to DROP THOUSANDS OF ITS AGENTS.

By September 11, 2001, the CIA was an empty shell, Intelligence insiders say the only way the agency could quickly put case officers into the field after September 11 was to hire retirees, many in their 60s and 70s. One Operations veteran says some CIA offices can only function thanks to there "re-employed annuitants."

Under Mr. Bush, the CIA has graduated the largest classes of case officers in decades, but it will take years before the young spymasters recruit enough human assets to give CIA global coverage. There are more intelligence failures ahead to be added to the lapses of September 11 and the misjudgments regarding Iraq. There is plenty of fault to go around for the emasculation of our intelligence. BUT YOU CAN'T BLAME MR. BUSH.

The Bush administration is the most to blame. It's as incompetent and arrogant as a junior high school clique. Completely clueless.

it is unlikely that after 10 years of sanctions and airstrikes and covert action against iraq that america wouldn't have had a fair idea of what was going on in iraq.

the idea that the commander in chief of the armed forces was unaware of what was going on is absurd as it insulting to anyone with the least intelligence.

any president claiming not to know that all this intelligence was made up is effectively pulling the reagan defence, sorry i don't remember signing stuff etc. there are heaps of people being thrown into gaol everyday because a judge doesn't believe the testimony of the accused. a little thing called CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE is enough to get someone convicted on murder amongst other things. in this case CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE would lead most people to believe that george is guilty as hell for telling lies.

invading a country based on a lie and denying that you had any real control over events is akin to standing in the street shooting a passerby in the head and then claiming to the police that given all of the available information at the time you had no other choice but shoot.

Prevaricate softens the bluntness of Lie by implying quibbling or confusing the issue "during the hearings the witness did his best to prevaricate".
Equivocate implies using words having more than one sense so as to seem to say one thing but intend another "equivocated endlessly in an attempt to mislead her inquisitors".
Palter implies making unreliable statements of fact or intention or insincere promises "a swindler paltering with his investors".
Fib applies to a telling of a trivial untruth "fibbed about the price of the new suit".

bush has lied to the american people knowingly or unknowingly.

the fact that we are debating whether george bush has been telling alots of dirty great fibs is already ringing the alarm bell.

ok.. clinton claimed that he never had sex with monica, why? because in his special way of reasoning he didn't regard oral sex as sex. some homosexuals don't regard themselves as homosexual because they don't "take it".

no doubt when more truth comes out and damning evidence comes to light george bush will have his own semantic understandings or rule of logic that will allow him to redefine what he considered a lie and what he didn't, as will his supporters.

ps yes i agree hippyland isn't the place for warmongers

Never once in his two-year tenure did CIA director James Woolsey ever have a one-on-one meeting with President Clinton. Even semiprivate meetings were rare. They only happened twice. Woolsey told me: "It wasn't that I had a bad relationship with the president. It just didn't exist. One of the little scoops was the revelation that Clinton froze Woolsey out because the CIA director refused to put a friend of Bill on the agency's payroll. This account was confirmed by both Woolsey and the Clinton's consigliore Bruce Lindsey.

Do you even understand that the transcripts coming out of the Middle East often took weeks for the CIA to read because the agency only had two people who could actually read them. I still remember after Bush got into office advertisements on T.V. trying to get people to work for the CIA who could read transcripts from that part of the world. America invaded Iraq based on faulty intelligence that was the result of 8 years of total incompetence.

The Sept. 11 attacks were planned in May 1998 in the Khalden Camp in southeastern Afghanistan, according to American and British intelligence. In other words, the 9/11 attacks were planned on Clinton's watch.

President Clinton did nothing to follow up after the attempted bombing of Aden marines in Yemen.
President Clinton shut the CIA out of the 1993 WTC bombing investigation, hamstringing their effort to capture bin Laden.
President Clinton allowed Had Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, a key bin Laden lieutenant, slip through their fingers in Qatar.
President Clinton did not accept the Sudanese offer to turn bin Laden over to the U.S.
President Clinton Objected to Northern Alliance efforts to assassinate bin Laden in Afghanistan.
President Clinton Decided against using special forces to take down bin Laden in Afghanistan.
President Clinton did not take an opportunity to take into custody two al Qaeda opratives involved in the East African embassy bombings.
ect, ect, ect, ect, ect, ect, ect,

Say what you will about Bush, but he did not destroy America's ability to gather overseas intelligence. And he did not just sit in the White house and watch are enemies kill Americans an look the other way. Bush had to deal with the dirt left from the former president who had more compassion for Islamics, than for American's.

Three times Clinton was offered bin Laden, and three times he refused. As a result, instead of bin Laden being locked up, he now got to watch and laught when 3,000 Americans died when the towers came down.

AND ALL YOU CAN THINK ABOUT IS BUSH?

Bush has blown over $300 billion now on the Iraq war. Think of how much could have been spent on things that are useful. And people are complaining about the way money was spent on the CIA in the 90s.

Yes people are complaining, and because money was not spent on the CIA, America was attacked and the World Trade center was destroyed along with the loss of 3,000 Americans. Also, the American military barracks were bombed in Saudi Arabia, two American Embassies were destroyed in East Africa, the USS Cole was bombed and countless other American lives were lost. And all because America had no reliable intelligence.

When GEORGE BUSH became president there was reportedly only two CIA covert operatives in the entire agency who spoke Farsi. When the American military overran Iraq and seized tons of files, there were no linguists within the CIA to read them. America is nolonger an island, there are people who want to destroy us. If you ignore you Intelligence agency you are asking for trouble. 911 is just a small example of what they want to do to us. Wait untill the Islamics get nukes. We will not be looking at two towers that have fallen, we will be looking a cities that have disappeared.

Very soon Iran will have Nukes, and Irans leader and President is on record of expressing his desire to see America and Israel destroyed. It does not take an airplane or a rocket to deliever a nuke. You can fit a small warhead in the trunk of a car and take out New York city. The only question remaining is, will this President watch as are enemies plotted against us like the last president did? Or will he act in time before it is to late? I believe for some American's, they will not understand the danger we face until first seeing a mushroom cloud overhead. Iran is now installing 3,000 nuclear centrifuges. Iran is floating on a sea of oil, do you really think they need nuclear energy for eletricity?

They'll be complaining much more 10 years from now when they look back at all the money and lives squandered by the Bush administration on this farce.

They have every right to peaceful nuclear energy [regardless of their other energy provisions]. It will be a challenge to make sure it stays that way. Plus goverments not over reacting and the populace not over reacting and either drawing to many conclusions and assumptions from commentators with bias.

Iran is already supplying weapons to the Islamics in Iraq which are being used even now to kill Americans. Iran has a vison of a world void of America and Israel. And have stated such. When Hitler came to power in the late 1930s he could of been stopped. The world stood and watched as he built up his war machine. When they finally did act, it was out of desperation. The end result was 60 million people had to die. Iran is now being motivated to destroy America and Israel by a religious calling. Their leaders believe that America is the Great Satan. They truly believe if America is destroyed, Allah will be pleased. If we allow them to build their nukes, America will have little time to act. And I can assure you, Islamics will be waiting in long lines, all trying to be the first one to deliever the first nuke to an American city. They will consider this a great honor. And they believe Allah will greatly reward them for their effort.

If you let the Islamic world get the nukes they now desire, the money spent on this war will look like chump change. I wonder how much money it will take to rebuild New York or Chicago?

It's $300 billion of squandered money. It hasn't made anyone safer, has destabilized the region, strained relations with what used to be our allies, and cost about 100,000 lives or more.

Some people will gladly throw a trillion dollars down the drain and cause a hundred thousand deaths in a war because they think it somehow defends some prediction in a religious text. And they will gladly let a ruler take the money right out of their pocket and lead them down the path to ruin. As if God needs someone like Bush or Ahmadinejad to protect His reputation. God must be a great practical joker.

Hitler was telling the world what he was planning, and the world ignored him.
The president of Iran is telling the world what he is planning, and has the support of the religious leaders of that country. It appears to me, Iran is the one who is playing for their God's affection. And they really want America to be one of their burnt sacrifices. What I find remarkable, is the fact that the Bible tells us in the prophecies that this is exactly what is going to happen to America. Here you have Islamics who donot believe in the prophecies of the Bible, yet, their actions will only fulfill it's prophecies. God tells us, that when all this happens, He will protect Israel at this time. America will not be protected by God, but God's people will be.
