I did some research about a year ago, and disovered that my birthday falls on an ancient Roman festival dedicated to Mars. Who else has birthdays that coincide with ancient holidays?
well...my birthday falls on the beginning of the ancient egyptian month of tybi, which was traditionally the sowing season...on my birthday the ancient egyptians would have had both the Heb Sed Festival and the Festival of Bast...
That's awesome No idea if my birthday* has any kind of significance attached to it. Am curious about it now, how did you find all that stuff out? *8th October
Although not really related to anything Pagan, my birthday was when the Civil War started, when Franklin Roosevelt Died, when the first Space Shuttle was launched, and David Letterman and Andy Garcia was also born on my birthday which is April 12th... Know any other things that happen on april 12th? like festivals and such? Edit: I found this about a Roman Holiday. Cerealia was a 7-day holiday celebrated in ancient Rome in honor of the goddess Ceres. The exact dates of the April festival are uncertain: it may have started on April 12 and ended on April 19 (Or it may have started on the Ides of April, i.e. April 13, or even on April 7.) In Rome, this was the primary festival of Ceres and was accompanied by the Ludi Ceriales or "Games of Ceres" in the Circus Maximus. Ovid's description (Fasti iv.494) mentions that Ceres/Demeter's search for her lost daughter Proserpina was represented by women clothed in white, running about with lighted torches.
it's not an ancient holiday, but my birthday falls on a day that is important to a lot of pagans and other earth-honoring types: earth day! nyah, nyah! i'm born on earth day, i'm hippier-than-thou! i get extra granola points just for my birthday. i also happen to share a birthday with bettie page.
there is significance to that and you finding that out at this particuar time. i found out i have four houses in my birth chart not but a few weeks ago...i don't even know what that means but the lady was really excited...while it seems for all of us this is the end of an old year and the beginning of a new year, it's actually the epilouge of an epic saga and it's time for us to recognize who we really are, because this process is quickening.
Thats cool. I don't know about my birthday (jan 13th). All I know is that I was due to be born on Jimmy Page's birthday (9th Jan) but was late. Oh, and I think I share a birthday with Orlando Bloom.
you continue to amaze me....i'm thinking/hoping that will not ever cease...in fact, i'm willing it so...
My birthday of August 13 On this date, the major Pagan festival of Hecate is traditionally held at moonrise. Hecate, the mysterious goddess of darkness and protectress of all Witches, is a personification of the Moon and the dark side of the female principle.
it continues to amaze me how you understand what i'm jabbering about...but not at all you know what i mean... the manifestation of signs and seeming coincidences into a web of events not unlike a puzzle, perhaps a portrait of a better world
well i can't find jack bout my pagan birthday, but i did find out a load of shit out about my gregorian birthday. namley, jim morison and greg allman were born on it, and john lennon died on it. the declaration of war after peal harbor, and the observation of the enlightenment of buddha. they first used the gas in the holocaust camps, and the day computers as we know it now was first brought about in san francisco(mouseys). NAFTA was signed as well as The solemnity of the immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary: a "holy day" of obligation. most of the things reverted to in the bible was smeared pagan values and celebrations reconstructed by men with sweaty palms, and grains of sands of truth remain. Pan tuting his flutes could explain more than one "immaculate conception". we are left here with the ruins on a once advanced people spiritually and technologically and siftin through the sands. coverups with serious mind fucks prevail, and the rest is left to sons of sam. capitalization of motivation and salvation elation service dedication equipped with severe perserverance survival mechanisms that take big shits constiuited of cookie cutter houses that devour fern gully in one fell swoop but we decided to go back to the roots
Ixchel is a powerful moon goddess, however, you may not consider her pagan. Then there is the Festival of Neith... http://www.btinternet.com/~lilith.kaos/declore.html
December 20 The Mother Night, Yule Eve On this night (approximately), a Germanic/Scandinavian Midwinter festival known as The Mother Night (or Modresnach) was observed. It was believed that dreams on this night foretold events in the upcoming year. Many of its traditions live on modern Christmas celebrations. The decorated evergreen tree was a symbol of the Tree of Life, or World Tree. The star atop the tree represented the pole star of the Star Goddess. The dinners and gifts were in honor of the food and prosperity given by the Mother Goddesses to their human children. The elves connected with our current Santa Claus are remnants of the supernatural Nature folk of the Old Religion. The reindeer are symbols of old shamanic abilities used by the people. The mistletoe is said to have first been picked and used to collect kisses by the Goddess Frigg, before it became a weapon to kill her son.
