I've been lurking this forum for a while...and very spontaneously created a dread about two weeks back. I did the back comb method. I only made one...Maybe one day I will do my entire head but I don't plan on it any time soon. I just thought I would share my single dread with you all...It doesn't eat up a lot of hair like most would imagine...and I try to pull out whatever hairs it does eat up when it gets a little bit hungry! So far I'm lovin' it. I'm a little apprehensive to make this post because of all the negativity and hate that I've seen here...but there's also a lot of cool people as well...and also I just wanted to show people what just one dread looks like...and that it can be done! I guess I should do a little introduction since nobody knows who I am...I'm Zoë and I am nearly seventeen...live in NY right now, will live in France this summer (with a volunteer organization), and then off to Vermont for college at Green Mountain College. I've been hennaing my hair for about a year, I just did yesterday and was slightly worried it would mess with the dread, but alas, the little guy is fine. I'd love to hear back from anyone, and what you think! Without further delay (These were taken with a shitty webcam...I will get better ones put up eventually!)
Welcome! Your little dready is cute!!! =) I had two friends that kept single dreadies on the top of their head. They lasted for years.
I shall! My best friend has had two dreads for years and they're still fine. I'll probably post updates to this from time to time. And thank you, Daisy!
i think its interesting seeing only one dread. originally i was all 'huh that would look weird' but seeing yours i've changed my mind and think it looks pretty good (nice bead)- though i'm pretty sure if i had done that with my curly hair type i would have ended up with a beast dread haha. i'm pretty sure once yours gets more mature it'll probably suck up less hair and you probably won't even have to worry about that in like 6 months or so (random guess here )
I have a friend with one dread in the same spot as you, she's had it over a year and hasn't had any trouble with it sucking up all other hair. Weeeeeelcome
There was an old lady that used to live in my town who was always walking around....she had one fat dread...prob about the size of 4-5 normal dreads...congoed at the front...the rest of her hair was scraggly as fuck but non dreaded. It always made me chuckle when Id see her cuz it made no sense and looked hideous. Anyways....what Im trying to say in a weird way is it looks cute on you but uh...I think dreading your whole head would be way cuter! =]
I know, I am already considering getting some more! That's cool, and good to hear! Do you like how it looks on her? I'd love to see pictures...there's not many pics in existence (At least that I can find...) of people with only one or two dreads... Hahaha, fair enough, Mandy Yes I've gotten several requests to dread my whole head, but...I just don't feel ready yet, or at a certain point where I really want to right now. Definitely still an option in the future, though. Also, to anyone, where do you get sweet beads for your dreads? I know there's plenty online... but any stores I could look in? I went to AC Moore but all of their beads have tiny holes, except for those big round wooden beads (The one in my hair).
Just wanted to share with you guys the bead I just painted... The thing under it is a random old earring I found in my attic while looking for the paint...score! Also, please disregard my dirty hair...I'm training my hair to be washed less frequently at the moment! (It's really working, I've gone four days! I've never gone four days while still showing it in public! Woo!) PS: Wild-flowers, I love you
Yayyy I got an extension of human hair, henna'd it, and attached it to the end of my little stub! Now I have a pretty awesome, long dread. As you can see, I'm pretty excited!
