my heart has been hurting on and off latley and im starting to get worried about it. i mentioned it once to my doc and he said it was all the carbonation from the Coke that I drink everyday. I also have been under alot of stress lately at work and my mother says that is probably the cause. but i also take 5-6 painkillers a day (yes it is an addiction) and i wondering if that could be the cause? i remember when i smoked pot, i smoked a half eighth a day for 5 years straight and toward the end of those 5 years my heart was hurting and i was having palpitations so i got worried and quit smoking pot (still smoke cigs) and i when i stopped the heart problems seemed to go away but lately my hearts been hurting again......i know that the simplest solution seems to just quit with pain killers, and i wish i could but i do feel after much thought and an effort to quit already that its something that i need help with - maybe an inpatient program which i cant do right now because i cant just interrupt my life and quit my job. so pls no shit about that.......

High anxiety can cause heart pain. If you've been under alot of stress, that might be the problem. I dont know anything about side affects from painkillers but you should definately look into that. But it might just be the anxiety.

    I agree with Free2Fly.....
I get that a lot, and my heart is in perfect working conditions. I have panic/anxiety disorder, and that's what causes it.

Also, you said you drink a lot of soda pop.... caffeine tends to do that as well, I noticed, with me. It raises my blood pressure and everything.

And yes, also definitely look into if your painkillers could cause it. *shivers* I could never take painkillers like that.... I try not to take them at all.

My suggestions: Cut down on the soda pop-- drink more water, or juices. Try some breathing exercises to relax you.... I'm not sure how well I can explain it on here, but when you breathe try to breathe in for about 8 counts, and let your diaphragm expand, rather than breathing in through your throat and in your lungs.... your belly should expand when you breathe in, rather than contract. Hold it for a few seconds, then SLOWLY exhale, and your tummy should contract.... That's the best one I know. Singers also use this one a lot. Try to relax more in your everyday environment....always take some time out to breathe, stretch your legs and arms.... try using some lavendar oil, candles or insence. Meditation is also fucking great...Hmm....PM me if you want to know more I have TONS of ideas.

And, I would try cutting down on the painkillers and see if that works....

There is no harm in trying to cut out potentially dangerous things in your everyday life.... Experiment, with cutting out certain things, and replacing with healthier foods/methods/etc.

Also, I know you're veggie.... not sure if you're vegan.... make sure you get all your vitamins.... B12 especially.

Oh also, smoking cigarettes probably don't help....

but, as an ex-smoker I know how hard it is to quit, so I'm not going to go off and tell you to quit...but if you think you CAN, and are up for it...then go for it :) That will improve EVERYTHING.

no i am vegan i drink soy milk....sometimes. but its true. i dont believe that anyone past the "baby" stage should be drinking milk. it was meant for children, not adults. and cow's milk was meant for cows.

yea sometimes my heart hurts and its pretty scary. but i usually credit it to caffine or lack of food or sleep. its scary to know if there is actually something wrong, or if theres just a minor little thing happening inside of you.

i do drink alot of caffine. one coffee in the morning and 5-6 cans of coke during the rest of the day. i tried switching to caffine free coke but it didnt tast the same and the reason i like coke is the taste, not the caffine.

That sounds more like an esophageal problem, or heartburn. This can feel JUST like heart pain. Doctors do not take actual heart pain lightly, did he say it WAS your heart, or that the origin of the pain was from the pop? Carbonation can cause heartburn (which is in your esophagus, not your heart) and maybe weaning off the the pop may help.

If you need the pain meds, you need them. Do you mind my askijng what are you taking? Things with aspirin, ibuprophen and other NSAIDS can cause stomach problems, which can cause pain right where your heart is.

Did your doctor give you any suggestions? I have to take daily pain meds, and one contains ibuprophen, so I take 20 mgs of pepsid twice a day, and some gas pills, it really helps.

I hope you are feeling better. If it is NOT your stomach or esophagus and your doctor is refusing to treat it, (pretty weird if he did) then please get an other opinion. You need your heart.

    Take care.

    im taking tramadol.

well the heart pain feels like someone is taking their hand and sqeezing my heart...its hard to explain. it doesnt really feel like a "burning" sensation but maybe it could be...???

when i told my doc (it was a long time ago) i just mentioned that i was getting chest pains and that it was my heart specifically that was hurting and he was just like "probably all the carbonation you take in" and that was the end of it so i didnt worry about it for a while thinking he knew his stuff. but no, he is not a good doctor...infact when i called him one weekend about another one of my *severe* migranes and said that i needed something for the times when my abortive meds dont work - i need some pain meds (that are stronger than tramadol which he doesnt know i take) and he said that he wont give me anything and basically if i feel like i need pain meds then i need to go to the ER. Well it's $150.00 everytime i go to the ER and i have been there probably about 10 times in the last year alone for migrane pain. i told him (all this thru his nurse of course) that i cant afford just to hop on over to the hospital for every one of my bad migranes which i get very frequently and still there was nothing he did about it. i was pissed! im still using him untill i can find another doctor.

He doesn't sound like a very good doctor. Migraines should be taken seriously. So should chest pain. Tramadol is actually an antiseizure drug, that helps with neurorransmitter balance to help with migraine. (WHO rrhe hell want to go to the ER for a migraine? You are at the last one on Triage, and you'll wait all day, for a shot of Toradol. (Migraine sufferers are often considered "drug seeekrs" by many ER doctors. :( )

I would either ask him "IS this my hear?" as you need to know. Or "Is this esophageal or digestive in origin?" Heartburn doesn't usually actually "burn" but cam be quite painful. Many people who think they are having heart attacks are actually having a bad heart burn attack. and sadly enough, other way around.

This really needs to be looked into. There are good meds, if it is you digestion, and if it IS your heart, it shuold be dealt with.

    Blessings.

i did not know that about tramadol and actually i just saw a migrane specialist the other week and he gave me a script (migrane prevention) of an anti seizure med, i cannot remember what its called tho....starts with a "G". I have filled it but havent started taking it yet because for some reason i've been scared to mix it with the tramadol which i take 5 of daily. i was planning to call the pharmacy & ask about the drug interaction........do you happen to know if its safe to take both? no, i did not tell this specialist that i take tramadol because I did not want to be treated like an addict (which i am):(

Tramadol is the generic name for Ultram.

It is an opioid, but it does affect serotonin also.

It can cause seizures, especially at doses exceeding 100 mg per 6 hours.

    It is not antiseizure.
