OK. Here's the deal. I have a friend whom I've known for many years. I don't see him very often, but he's the kind of friend with which I can sit and have long winded philosophical discussions. We usually talk about conscioussness, meditation, psychedelics, aliens, conspiracies, and so on. People which you can have these types of conversations are kinda rare in these parts, so I'm happy to have him around. The thing is, in the last year or so, I feel like he's starting to be a little ''out there''. Nothing extreme at first, but every once in a while he'll drop a line that makes me kinda wonder... For example, I went for a beer with him a few months ago and he was telling me about how he thinks its very possible that humans have alien genes because we are evolving at a much faster rate than any other organism on this planet. This is a valuable theory, and its not an uncommon one. He was telling me this, and then he said that almost every night, he sits on his balcony in his appartment and stares at the sky for literally HOURS and that he is certain that he sees things move from time to time. This is the part that alarmed me a little bit. Today I was talking to him over email, and he's telling me he accomplished something and that he wants us to talk in person because he doesnt want me to think he's crazy. After I convinced him to tell me, he said that he's been doing telekenesis. He says he folds little pyramids made of tinfoil and puts them on a pin, and after concentrating for a while, he can see the pyramid start to turn on the pin and he can make it switch directions and such... He followed by reitterating that he's completely sane and not making this up. And then he said that he can actually feel the part of his brain that is working when he is practicing this telekenesis. He followed that he showed his girlfriend, who at first didn't want to believe it and was saying that he was breathing on it by accident, and ended up believing him. I dont know if he was spending hours trying to show her and that she finally gave up and said OK fine I believe you. That being said, I find all of this disturbing and I really don't know how I should address this situation. I'm not going to discredit him right off the bat and say that he's having schizophrenic tendencies, but this all seems a bit delusional to me...
First off, I'd go see him and watch his demo... It is possible... and you can apply that to either side of the argument, it's possible he is completely sane and has developed telekinesis... in which case, you will know... or possible he is slipping out of reality... and again, at least you will know.
its a tough one, because you show up, watch him stare at tinfoil for a while and if it doesn't move he has already convinced himself that he is sane and wont accept you wanting to talk about it. Maybe you could talk to his GF, maybe she has already approached him about speaking to someone?
I'd do this. About seeing things move in the sky.... remind him that he's totally right, things move all the time (where I live, it's dark and you can often see a meteor every few minutes, or more often, when there ISN'T a shower going on) but that if it was far enough away to NOT be very well understood, he wouldn't see any movement at all, and nothing small enough to be anything on our own scale would be visible at more than a handful of miles. Sounds like delusional wishful thinking.
Put the tinfoil pyramids in a fish tank where he cant breath on it , and see if he can still make it move. There are things moving in the sky , birds , air planes , satellites , and maby u.f.o.s desert rat
The fish tank idea is brilliant. The best thing you can do in this situation is help your friend by really testing his supposed telekenesis. This will prove the validity of the claim. Sounds like he just needs reminding that although we should all strive for higher thoughts and the possibilities of the universe are endless we should not let our imaginations fill the gaps too much. He should try getting back to nature a bit.
I emailed him today suggesting the aquarium thing. It's a good plan. No answer yet. I emailed him at work. Maybe he's just not in. We'll see.
