My First Grow.... (Item 9)

Ok so prices around my town are ridiculous!! and even then the weed is dodgy at best... even from my guy (who i like to think is the most honest one of the bunch) your chances of getting what you pay for arn't that great...
So I decided about a month ago i would grow!! This is my first grow so i'm going with one plant on the small scale in a stealth operation...

Day 1 (9/7/09 22:37 hrs)
I just finished my box (pics comming as soon as I find the usb cord! ha)
and I am running a few temperature tests.. I have jerri-rigged a computer case with one CFL light 26w and a small fan.. At the moment it seems to be doing fine.... but once i get the plant in there tomorrow I'm not sure if my fan will keep up. I will do 2 different grows in the comming months. One i will use LST (Low Stress Training) and the other will use SOG (Sea Of Green) i will compare these two on ease of use and production of bud.. First i will use the LST method because i believe in it more ha! and btw... this is the poor man's grow... i will use things found only around the house and only if i have to use less than 20$!!!! Stealth is of the neccesities because my roommates do not condone of my use! i don't/won't sell this is for my use alone!! i will be using a bag seed of some dank mess my friends and i call Item 9 (pineapple express)
haha i get 6 of them tomorrow from my friend I will germinate them A.S.A.P.
(wich will be tomorrow) and hopefully have them planted as early thursday or friday. I can't wait for it!!! Again my setup is SUPER LOW POOR MAN's BUDGET!!!! well until i have other news....

Well the lst will take alot longer then the sog and its alot harder really but can yield more per plant but as 4 coverage about the same per squ foot. Anyway good luck with the grow and keep safe.

 

you defiantly need more cfls

 

eh, use atleast an mh or go outside to grow.

though I have seen wicked buds coming out of a computer-box setup using fluoros, itll just take a bit longer..

 

you didnt mention about the sexing...on a tiny stealth setup you could waste a lot of time on gettin a female....i would start several and throw away all but the mightiest female....start readin up on early sexing

 

yeah im with rollingalong its best to start a few and then do selection of best/strongest

ok. so i've tried to look up information about early sexing to no avail..
either i get old forum posts flamming people for asking stupid questions
or i just get flat explanations of "no way to tell that early" so here is my delema
the only proven process (or so the only one i have found) is to go 12/12 from start of the seed and then once you have determined sex (around 4 weeks into the cycle) take a clone of said Females and finish up the grow with the smaller plants or just break into the clone project.. Sine item 9 is an experiment i may do that on my next grow.. but as for this time i will get more item 9 seeds tomorrow from my buddy! i will start them off in Red beer solo cups and maybe do like a mix of SCROG/SOG haha a SOG-GY/SCROG if you will until i sex and kill off the males...then i will maybe transplant them into bigger containers or be lazy and beer cup it... alittle info about the seeds of item 9 a senior at my school from last year took this realy DANK Kush strain and a nice heady Orange Kill and bred the two together (cross polanation) then he sold off like 4lbs over a month period around the school... it was nice shit... alot of my friends lost their virginity to the best weed i ever smoked hahah but yes i am excited as hell and since i havnt the means of travel to go and get certian materials (nutes and what not) a buddy is helping me for a piece of the pie if you will... so everything is set hopefully by the weekend i have sprouts!! i will work on a screen to use in the developement of my SCROG tonight.. and pictures are comming soon!!

yea bra.. we have a cleaning lady once a week i can't have anything more conspicous than it already is because she will most deff call the cops!! (she is a recovering addict heavily rooted in christian ways) but yes this is just round one... i will come up with something bigger later... but for now.. i'm comfortable with small scale! so anyone have any info on early sexing? I will germ 5 seeds tomorrow i hope at least 3 react!!

 

all 5 will most likely pop if they are good seeds

i've heard a rumor of darker seeds being better

idk if its true but it might be good advice

 

haha the black seeds would be "better" jk
but i would love if that happened.. typically i don't think i'll fit 5 plants
in my space... but i'll try as many seeds that pop!! lol
i am still making a screen everyone wish me luck..
i will restart the clock on my grow once i germ!!

Well I took some synthetic opiod pain. Pills for my neck so I am kinda jittery now.. LOL but I used my jitteryness to add another CFL to my box!!! I will leave it on all night And check the temperature in the morning... I wired the cfl into the exsisting wire so I only have 2 cords comming from the box.. I will kinda mount the 2 lights in that metal box Wear I ran the wires.. This I hope will be enough because if not I will have to add another fan I think... Now I get the seeds tomorrow germ and keep everyone here posted!! Hopefully I will pop some lovely ladys.. Still working on my scrog screen any tips?

 

Weed does grow anywhere and can grow half to one each every day!!!! put it this way In such a small space ya be weeding out the strong in favour of the weak coz there not gonna out growing ya space. Grow outside or get a few cuttings from a mate and go from there is ya best option. Most if not all of the pictures ya see of mj that are small compact plants are done from cuttings.

What are preflowers?

Preflowers, as opposed to full blown flowers, generally appear after the fourth week of vegetative growth from seed. Check carefully above the fourth node. Please note that preflowers are very small and and almost impossible to differentiate without magnification. A photographer's 10x loupe is handy indeed when examining preflowers.



As the images below demonstrate, the female preflower is pear shaped and produces a pair of pistils. Frequently, the female preflowers do not show pistils until well after the preflowers have emerged. Thus, don't yank a plant because it has no pistils. Pistillate preflowers are located at the node between the stipule and emerging branch.



Also, some female preflowers never produce pistils. A female preflower without pistils is difficult to distinguish from a male preflower. Thus, hermaphodite issues should not be resolved by the appearance of preflowers, without pistils, on a plant otherwise believed to be a female.

link..i used google and entered early marijana sexing and got 402000 results...the link i posted has pictures...the general rule is if it has nuts its a boy

 

Haha I actualy printed this exzact article because It was the closest thing to early sexing I could find.. Is this what you guys ment?I've read a good deal on the preflowers.. I'm fairly certian i can spot an early pistil with confidence!! But thanks for everyones help!! And I will try to be as specific as I can with many pictures so I can help people like freedom! I'm glad I'm finally contributing something worth while to the site!!! I'm excited as hell... I get the seeds in a few hours!! Here we go!!!
