My dread progress and a question.

Okay, here they are at about two months:

I started crocheting it at about six months and did it on and off until maybe a year or eighteen months. I wasn't seeing them get any neater but was told to just leave them alone and they'd eventually clean up a bit.

Well, I haven't really maintained them for a year and a half (or more) and they're messier than ever.

Can anyone suggest where to go from here? I'm already fairly sure that 90% of responses will be "leave them alone," but they don't seem to be improving a lot.

They look awesome. At 3 years (like me) you aren't looking for them to get better, just longer, and you can't help that. So, leave them alone

have you tried palm rolling?

 

palm rolling is pointless at ANY stage. also, loose hair is part of the style dude, unless you want to crochet daily. crocheting is also dumb. it may damage your hair and creates more loose hairs in the end. i think yours look superb. esp. with the lizard.

 

Ive actually found that if my dreads are looking flat and wide, a bit of palmrolling helps to round em out a bit. But yes, awesome dreads! (that lizard just freaks me the fuck out tho, lol)

i think your dreads are awesome! ultimately its up to you - i put up with the loosies cause im too lazy to do anything with them.. thats the low maintenence part! if you wanna keep crocheting them, then do so.. your hair & your choice

also where do you get your beads?

 

I get mine from bracelets, necklaces etc from hippy shops!!

 

Since my dreads are so thick, it's really hard to find beads which fit them. The fish bead was ordered from Ebay. Search for "boxwood bead" if you want things like that.
The small colourful wooden beads are just from a craft shop and the rings and bone beads are from: http://www.thatbeadlady.com/ (I walked in to the store)

She doesn't have a lot of stuff that fits my dreads, but occasionally I'll find something cool. Thinner dreads may have better luck.

 

I've found that if you switch to a satin pillow case the hair has nothing to rub against but itself and keeps my dreads looking hella tidy. Gorgeous dreads btw and love to see fellow dready reptile keepers ;-)
